Holy cow, what a way to start the new year! If you saw our front page today you may have noticed that we had 833,280 page views on Wednesday. That is our all time record! We've never seen so many people looking for collector cars before in our 15 years in business. Ready or not, it is 2010 and we are waking up to a new age. The coming year will in no way be like the one we just survived. Most of us are still in pretty good shape despite just coming out of a recession. We believe the worst of the economic slowdown is behind us, and are looking forward to an exciting year of car collecting.

There have been more buyers looking for collector cars in December than there were a year ago at this time. Our page counter on the Cars On Line home page has been over 800,000 three times in the past week. Now that's a lot of buyers showing interest in the collector car market. The number of buyers looking for cars this December is 16 percent higher than last year. Experience tells us that the numbers of interested buyers will increase right through January as the Barrett-Jackson Auction in Scottsdale, Arizona occurs the third weekend of this month. The Barrett-Jackson always gives the market a jump start. The buyers are out there. Sellers just have to reel them in. It's probably gonna' be an outstanding January.

THE  BEST OF CARS ON LINE  FOR  2009
As we enter 2010 its always a great exercise to review things we may have done right in the past year. For newsletter readers, we always review the top cars listed and SOLD thru Cars On Line at the year's end. This is one of our most poular features all year. It was a year that started with a rocky realization that we were in a recession. Prices on collector cars began to plummet. Hemi Mopars that were drawing $750,000 bids two years ago could not pull $200,000 at current auctions. Then, about June, the market stabilized, prices stopped their precipitous decline and we began to hope for a rebound. I believe we are in the rebound stage right now.

The hottest Exotic Car of the year was listed in June. It was the 2009 Rossion Q1, a fairly recent entry on the exotic car scene. They were announced in 2007 but only about four of these cars were imported to the U.S. on special order from South Africa where they were built. The company that was advertising them on our website is Rossion Automotive in Pompano Beach, Florida. The rights to the Rossion Q1 were acquired from Lee Noble, who built the M400 and the current M15 super cars. Up to this time Noble had been designing mostly race cars. The 2009 Rossion Q1 incorporates much of his racing technology but also features creature comforts that compare with Lamborghini and Porsche. See this car perform in a factory produced video by clicking this link. Or click this link for a cool video of the interior and a detailed walk-around.

We SOLD more $100,000-cars this year than we've ever done before. A good number of the $100,000 + cars that sold were street rods. For example, take the 1940 Ford Street Rod Pickup truck offered for sale by Classic Car Marketing of Southern California. They tell us that mega hours were invested in getting just the right look, stance, clearance, color and SOUND for this car to be aesthetically perfect ... a top national show car. It was shown at Goodguys, Pismo Beach, Seal Beach, the Labor Day Cruise, Pasadena, and was featured at John Force's Race Station Car Show December, 2008. After its first showing three major magazines booked it for feature layouts.

GEORGE BARRIS KUSTOM
Well, Dan Schmitt & Co of St. Louis have done it again. They listed another quality kustom done by George Barris, the famous custom car builder of Hollywood movie fame. During the Christmas holidays they posted a 1972 Lincoln Bugazzi, the first car Barris built in a series of such cars. In 1973, this particular car was the Motor Trend Car of the Year, a high honor for any single car in our history. Dan Schmitt & Co calls this one of the most unique motorcars in the world. They say it has undergone a "no expense spared" restoration to keep it true to the original design by Barris. The odometer currently reads 44,000 and they say the miles are original. Last month, Dan Schmitt & Co posted another Barris car, the famous 1967 Oldsmobile Toronado 70-X. Barris is known for designing the famous Batmobile for the “Batman” television show in the ‘60s. His creations have also graced the screen of popular movies such as “Herbie” from The Love Bug and The Monkees car from the TV series. In the ‘50s and ‘60s, Barris built his reputation as a custom builder by creating custom cars for Hollywood movies. Then celebrities sought him out to build custom cars for their personal use. He built a shop in Toluca, California where he still operates as Barris Kustom Industries. Click this link for a look at the discrete assorted inventory of Dan Schmitt & Co at their gallery in St. Louis.

TOP VIDEO ADS THIS WEEK
Have you noticed how many great videos we've seen listed over the holidays? One that caught my eye yesterday when it was posted is a video of a 2006 Mustang GT from Kumbera Motors in Illinois. This is a street legal race car, according to the ad copy. It had been listed earlier but now Kumbera Motors has updated the ad to include a video. It makes a big difference. Now I get it. Just listen to the throaty sound of this race car in street trim. Click here to view the video. They say it cost over $120,000 to build this car. According to the story, it was stripped down when still new and rebuilt into a track car. They say they have all the receipts on the professional build which show they used all top end equipment. It has an aluminum Saleen-built small block motor pushing over 400 horsepower, a Viper 6-speed transmission and much, much more. They say there are only 500 miles on the car since the build. Kumbera Motors uses video in many of their ads. Click here for a list of their entire inventory, including videos embedded in the ads.

PROJECT CARS
The Project Car Section is gaining in popularity. This week we noticed that the Project Car Section has moved up to being the third most popular section on our website (behind the Camaro Section and the Plymouth Section.) And here's why. A very interesting project, a 1965 Buick Wildcat Convertible (shown here), was listed by a private seller in Brighton, Colorado. He says that the car is 99 percent complete, but will need a total restoration. The seller says he has run out of room to store it and needs to sell. Your gain. In looking for a project car to restore, make sure you watch our New Listings page for daily updates. Or you can find hundreds of project cars for sale now in the Cars On Line Project Car Section online.

STREET SWEET ...
Quite possibly one of the most desirable street rods we have seen all year ... this is a 1931 Ford Woody listed by Classical Gas Enterprises of Texas. The build is of high quality with a professionally worked pinched frame. You could eat off the undercarriage and the custom dash is very unique.

Classical Gas Enterprises also posted a 1941 Willys Coupe. The paint alone deserves consideration. The colors are Aragon Gold pearl and Limetime Pearl Green. It has a blown 540 big block motor with a Weiand 671 shotgun blower. It has a great rake and sits on an Art Morrison 2x3 tubular chassis.

Nicely done. A sweet little 1933 Willys 5-Window Coupe was listed by Classical Gas. They say the Rod Craft body is smoothed to perfection. They say it runs smooth with a Corvette LT1 engine and 700R4 transmission with Lokar shifter. Check out the engine compartment.
A rare 1938 Chevy Convertible has been listed by a street rodder from Mt. Vernon, Illinois. The dark blue over peach paint is sharp and they say it has a Mustang II front end, disk brakes, Halibrand wheels and cold air conditioning make this a very nice driver class hot rod.

DESIRABLE STUDEBAKER ...

The reason why Studebakers remain so hot in today's market is because of the aero dynamic body styles of the '50s and '60s. This 1963 Studebaker Avanti R2, for example, is a Corvette killer, with a Supercharged 289 . See more in the Studebaker Section online.
CLASSIC PICKUP TRUCKS ...

A complete and comprehensive restoration was done on this 1954 Chevy Pickup, according to Classical Gas Enterprises of Texas. They say there is only 1 mile on this car since it was completed. The updated drivetrain is a Corvette LT1 with a 4L60E automatic transmission.

Just look at the photos on this 1972 Chevy C-10 Pickup from Floral City, Florida. It has undergone a frame off custom restoration, says the seller. It features features a big block 396, rebuilt auto trans, new houndstooth interior, factory tach and suspension lowered 5 in.

DEAL OF THE DAY
This week the DEAL of the DAY feature has some cars that are extra nice for the price. Even here in the Cars On Line Daily Update newsletter we aren't used to such highly desirable cars showing up at such low prices. Newsletter readers know that we feature the best prices here in the DEAL of the DAY preview. In this DEAL of the DAY section of our newsletter we give readers first chance at the featured bargains among the fresh ads on our website. Then during the coming week you'll see these cars on our home page in the DEAL of the DAY graphic that looks like a "rear view mirror."

This 1970 Plymouth Duster is so sharp looking in the photos we had to present it here. The seller from Beaver Falls, Pennsylvania says it was an original Duster 340 small block car but now has a 360 Mopar crate engine producing 390 horsepower. He says it is currently set up for drag racing and runs the quarter-mile in 12.2 consistently. He says he has everything it needs to be put back to original. He said it was not cut up and was done correctly (no wheel tubs, fuel cell etc.) According to the ad copy, the body, paint, undercarriage, sheet metal, new chrome, trim and glass are all in excellent condition. It will be our DEAL of the DAY on Saturday because the asking price is only $15,700.

In our Replica Section it is very infrequent that you will find a 1931 Alfa Romeo recreation done as a kit car. The seller is from Ontario, California and indicates in the ad copy that he is moving and needs to sell this rare roadster. He says it is street legal and has a current registration. Here is what is so interesting. This little classic Alfa roadster has a Chevy 350 ci small block engine and an automatic transmission. What a little rocket it must be. There is another one that has been completed in full vintage regalia for sale in Brookfield, Wisconsin at an Italian sports car shop. They want four times the price that this one is being offered at. It will be our DEAL of the DAY on Sunday with an asking price of only $4,900. Needless to say, you may have to hurry to get a shot at this one.

The '40-41 Ford is one of the most desirable body styles among street rodders because of the tear drop headlights and the stylistic front valance. Better check this one out quickly. We don't expect it will last long at this price. A 1941 Ford Pickup has been listed out of Cape Coral, Florida. And this step side classic pickup is way better than a starter car. They say it has power windows, power brakes, Unisteer system, Cragar wheels, air conditioning, electric power bucket seats and a custom finished bed. According to the description it is powered by a 350 Chevy small block with a TH350 transmission, 10-bolt Chevy rear end and 2.5" exhaust with Mellow mufflers. Just look at the photos and you know right away that this is a car worth inspecting. It will be our DEAL of the DAY next week if it lasts that long. The price listed is $27,000.

Don't forget! Have these cars inspected before you buy. One man's great opportunity is another man's nightmare. You have to know if the car is right for you.

With customs commanding so much attention in the collector car market these days, here is a 1950 Chevy Sedan Delivery that has a lot of good work done for a starter car price. What I like about it are the look and stance. It comes from Arundel, Maine and the seller says it has a custom Camaro front clip, power steering, power brakes and disc brakes in front. The engine is a 305 V8 which the seller says runs well. He says the Delivery needs some TLC, so be prepared to do some work to make this car what you want it to be. It will be our DEAL of the DAY next week with an asking price of $15,500.

Here's another driver quality type ride that is very interesting. The
1965 Chevy El Camino has been listed by a private seller in Lynnwood, Washington. The 400 ci engine and 400 transmission are mildly buit and he says it has a shift kit. He says the paint is PPG base coat, clear coat with very few miles since a refurbishing. He says it has a new interior, power steering, air conditioning and power drum brakes plus the 12-bolt rear end. It will be our DEAL of the DAY next week. The price is only $10,500.

A Canadian muscle car collector is offering a 1972 Mustang at a pretty fair price. He says he has over $20,000 invested in his ride. He says it is an original California car, and he has replaced the bumpers, brakes and suspension. It has the original motor, a 351C with 99k miles and an upgraded Edlebrock 4-barrel intake, headers and dual stainless exhaust, rebuilt rear end. It has an automatic on the console and power disc brakes and power steering. Most important, he says it drives as good as it looks. See photos. It will be our DEAL of the DAY priced at $11,990.

Often there are more cars than we can feature on our front page every week. Here is a list of cars that just missed the cut for the DEAL of the DAY feature. Remember, you saw them here first:
