HRG IS ONE OF ONLY THREE
The Auto Collections at the Imperial Palace in Las Vegas has posted
some high powered and rare vintage motorcars. One of them is
a limited edition HRG race car, said to be one of only three
produced. The 1954
HRG Twin Cam sports racer was built
to compete in Gentlemans'
races in England, such as the Goodwood Festival races, against
legendary race car drivers as Sir Sterling Moss and Colin Chapman.
This car was numbered 15APB. It had helicopter adapted disc brakes
that could be replaced in 15 minutes because of the spider style
wheels. It also had a tubular chassis which gave it superior
handling and roadability. The HRG Engineering Co Ltd had been
formed to build sports cars. The Bitish manufacturer built 241
cars between 1936 and 1956. Enthusiasts and owners nicknamed
these cars "Hurgs." The Auto Collections is
housed at the Imperial Palace Hotel and Casino. Many of the cars
on display at their museum are for sale, including this rare
1954 HRG.
Another incredibly rare and exotic classic
car listed by The Auto Collections is a 1954
Alfa Romeo 1900 SS Ghia, which would
be hard to find today even in Europe. It was delivered new to
George Walker, then Vice President of Design at Ford Motor Company
and comes with known provenance. They say it returned to the
U.S. in the year 2000. This Alfa was also shown at Floridas
Italia Fest in February and received a 2nd
in class award. A casual observer might consider that the 1900
SS Ghia looked a lot like the B.A.T. concept cars designed for
Alfa Romeo by Bertone based on the 1900 Sprint chassis. But the
1900 SS Ghia was actually a production vehicle, although it is
one of only 20 built by Ghia, and the only one that was built
on this "long wheel base." In '54, Alfa introduced
a larger engine with more horsepower. This Super Sprint version
was thought to produce 115 horsepower. The 1900 was the first
Alfa Romeo to be produced on a production line. The base engine
was a 4 cylinder 1884 cc with dual overhead cams. It was longitudinally
mounted in the engine bay. The 1900 utilized a basic sports car
suspension, independent front suspension with wishbones and coil
springs.

LOW MILES CARS
It's another amazing week as Low Mile cars continue to come in.
Where do all these low miles pampered treasures come from? The
Auto Collections in Las Vegas listed a 1987
Buick Grand National (see it above left) which they say has
only 1,450 actual miles. See photos of the documentation on this
car. The Grand National was the world's fastest production car
back in '87. This one is still like new with one owner most of
its life. If you like survivor cars here is a 1969
Mercury Monterey (shown above center) from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania
that is said to have only 10,600 miles. It's still in the wrapper
with the original plastic still on the seats, says the seller.
And a 1973
Pontiac Grandville Convertible (above right) was just posted
by Orlando Classic Cars in Florida. They list it as having
just 23k miles. According to their description, it is still wearing
its original tires. Orlando Classic Cars is a classic
car dealer that has a reputation for finding low miles original
cars from the south.

PROJECT CARS
Several custom car restorations will trigger your imagination
in the Project
Car Section this week. A 1958
Chevy Impala Hardtop (shown above left) has been offered
for sale by a hot rodder in Albuquerque, New Mexico. He says
this is a complete car for restoration. Some work has been done.
Engine needs to be rebuilt. A unique custom 1950
Chevy 2-Door project car (shown above center) with radical
body mods has been listed from Palm Coast, Florida. They say
this car was featured as a project story in American Rodder magazine
in 1996. Obviously all the hard work has been done. It just needs
you to finish it. And Unique Specialty & Classic in Mankato,
Minnesota has listed an interesting project for restoration.
It is a 1956
Cadillac Fleetwood Series 75 Limousine (above right) in original,
unrestored condition, and they say the frame is very solid. Only
1,095 of these 7-passenger limousines were produced in '56. They
say the car has been in storage for 30 years.
And there's more: In looking for a project car to
restore, make sure you watch our New
Listings page for daily updates. Or
you can find hundreds of project cars for sale now in the Cars
On Line Project
Car Section online.
PRICE CHANGES PAGE
A couple of years ago top dollar
for a high quality street rod could easily have gone into six
figures. Today those numbers are hard to come by, so more and
more you see the big dollar street
rods going for less. This week a 1934
Ford Roadster from Boston, Massachusetts was reduced in price
from $120,000 down to $85,000. This particular street rod is
set apart form all others because of the mopar drive train. It
was given a 1967 426 race hemi producing 750 horsepower. Of course,
it does have an independent front suspension and stainless steel
3" exhaust. I think if the seller had used a SLIDE SHOW ad he might have been able to
get better results. With the photos he used you have to have
a good imagination to figure out why this car might deserve big
numbers. Oh well, his loss may be your gain. I'd check this one
out closely. It might be a diamond in the rough. If
you don't check the Price
Changes page today you will miss great
deals like this street rod.

MUSCLE CAR CLONES
A 1966
Shelby GT350H tribute car was just listed by Vanguard
Auto Sales in Farmington, Michigan. They tell us that the
guy who built
this car had an original black Shelby and used many of the parts
from the authentic car to build this recreation, including seatbelts,
steering wheel, front disc brakes, mirrors, front suspension,
tach, body emblems, gear shifter, door seals, distributor and
even the Shelby tag from his original one. It has a 289 V8 (not
the Shelby V8) and an automatic transmission. Vanguard
says it runs great.

DEAL OF THE DAY
This week the DEAL of the DAY
feature has some cars that are extra nice for the price. Even
here in the Cars On Line Daily Update newsletter we aren't used
to such highly desirable cars showing up at such low prices.
Newsletter readers know that we feature the best prices here
in the DEAL of the DAY preview. In this DEAL
of the DAY section of our newsletter
we give readers first chance at the featured bargains among the
fresh ads on our website. Then during the coming week you'll
see these cars on our home page in the DEAL
of the DAY graphic that looks
like a "rear view mirror."
Usually our lead DEAL of the DAY
for any given week is a nice No. 3 condition car, often mostly
stock original. Well, this week our top DEAL
of the DAY breaks the mold. The built 1966
Chevy Nova street machine that was offered for sale from
Shawnee, Kansas will
get more than a few hot rodders excited. Just for starters it
has a Chevy small block 355 with 4-bolt main webbing. They say
it is estimated at 450 horsepower. It has Stinnet Racing Turbo
350 transmission built to handle 750 horsepower, TCI 3500 stall
converter, transmission cross member built to accept Turbo 350,
400 and 700R. The 9" Ford posi rearend with new Auburn Pro
Series gear, new 390 rear end gear, plus Mustang II front end
with rack and pinion steering. When you read the rest of the
description you'll be blown away by how much time and top end
equipment has been built into this outstanding street machine.
The seller says he needs money to finish another car. It will
be our DEAL of the DAY on
Saturday because ... are you sitting down? ... the asking price
is only $22,000. Hurry!
Shelby Cobras are the most often reproduced classic car ever.
Some are just replicas but some are authentic in detail and design.
Factory Five is recognized as one of the best builders of Cobra
reproductions. And we have never before seen one offered this
cheap. Here is a
1965 Factory
Five Cobra from Douglassville, Pennsylvania. This model is
called a Mk III. The seller decided to represent this trophy
for sale in a detailed SLIDE SHOW
ad. It has a stock 302 ci 5.0L EFI, FFR 4 into 4 exhaust, rebuilt
AOD automatic transmission, 3:08, posi rear end. Interestingly
the seller says it has Lincoln MK VIII front disk brakes, Flaming
River steering rack, FFR tubular lower control arms, Lokar automatic
shifter assembly, FFR full length rollbar, Simpson harnesses
and 15" PSE Halibrand wheels. The seller says it has been
titled as a 1965. It will be our DEAL
of the DAY on Sunday with an
asking price of $19,500. We have never seen a Factory Five Cobra
priced so reasonably.
If you are in the market for a Cobra replica today is your lucky
day. There is also a 1965
Factory Five Cobra for sale from Sparta,
Tennessee for $27,500. And another 1965
Cobra 427SC from Niskayuna, New York
was listed for $26,500. Anything under $30,000 signals a potential
good deal. These should be worth your time to inspect.
Once in a while we'll see a nice starter car quality street
rod listed for under $30,000. But when that car is a Deuce Roadster
that looks this nice you're gonna see some hot rodders
making a beeline for the phone. Just look at this 1932
Ford Roadster from Fayetteville, North Carolina. Don't get
me wrong. This is no show car. But it is way more than a starter
car and still has a starter car price. The seller says it has
a Ford 9" rear end, independent front suspension with coilovers,
4-link in the rear with coilovers and TCI frame. He says it has
Moon gauges, Lokar shifter, roll bar, and a one-piece hard lift
off top with zip-in side windows. He says no expense was spared
in building this car, and that you could drive it anywhere. It
will be our DEAL of the DAY next week if it lasts that long. The price listed
is $26,000 even. Hurry!
Don't forget! Have these cars inspected
before you buy. One man's great opportunity is another man's
nightmare. You have to know if the car is right for you.
Although the seller says this is a real
Dart GTS, forget about originality for a second. What Mopar collector
wouldn't want to have a GTS set up like this? The 1969 Dodge Dart GTS from Fort Wayne, Indiana is well sorted out.
The seller says it comes with the custom Dart SS hood, built
440 big block with Edelbrock aluminum Stage I heads, TTi chrome
headers, 3" exhaust, chrome tips exiting in front of the
rear tires, dual quads with 650 Edelbrock carbs, automatic transmission
with shift kit and TCI shifter, 3.55 posi rear end and has been
mini-tubbed. He says it has a Dodge Stealth bucket seat interior
and a front disc brake conversion. This is a lot of car for the
money. It will be our DEAL of
the DAY next week with an asking
price of $22,750. I don't think you can get a clone for that
price.
Here is, maybe, the real sleeper in this group of DEALs of the DAY.
Consider a convertible Ford sports car with a big block and the
asking price is less than $10,000! That's
right ... here is a 1967
Ford Galaxie 500 Convertible that comes
with a 390 big block motor and an automatic transmission. The
seller says it has many new parts to include a new top, all new
shocks, rear coil springs, rear brakes and hardware kit, 4 new
tires, spark plugs, wires, cap, points, rotor and motor mount.
The seller from Apollo, Pennsylvania says it runs great. He says
it has one repaint and has no tears in the interior. The miles
are over 92k. He says it is a very solid car. The pictures seem
to indicate that might be the case. This will be a DEAL of the DAY
next week. How can you beat this asking price? $9,500 !!
This one is a bit of a project, but
a very desirable collector car on our "future collectible"
radar. Yes, the desirable 1972
Ford Gran Torino Sport has rust and
needs paint. But the
seller says it seems to have only 38k miles. He says he was told
the mileage is correct by the former owner. He says it has the
original 351 Cleveland engine and that it runs well. He even
states that the automatic transmission shifts smoothly. He thinks
it was originally a black/black car. But it needs paint anyway.
He says the dash pad is excellent and all the gauges work. This
one might be worth checking out. Even though it will need a restoration,
the potential that this car may have is why it will be our DEAL of the DAY priced
at $3,750.
Here's a car that got what we call a
"trim and a shave" instead of a restoration. The Manchester,
Tennessee private owner of the car said he bought it thinking
it was a real Chevelle
Convertible. Turns out it was just a hardtop converted into a
convertible. So now he just wants to move this 1967
Chevelle and is selling it cheap. The
seller says there are definitely some issues that need to be
figured out on this car, including the paint and motor. You can
see from the photos that this car was jury rigged together by
some backyard car jockey. The current owner is letting it go
for pocket change ... $8,900.
Often there are more cars than we can feature on our front
page every week. Here is a list of cars that just missed the
cut for the DEAL of the DAY
feature. Remember, you saw them here first:
CARS FOR
$10,000-AND-UNDER
You'll be blown away by these values,
all $10,000 and Under. Some
of these cars are outstanding, really nice cars, not junk, and
yet they are priced at what we would consider "pocket change."
