For the fourth week in a row now we are seeing record numbers
of cars sell. This week Camaros are hot. Not only did we sell
a half dozen classic Camaros, but several late model Camaros
were marked SOLD this week as well.
Last week a famous lead sled built by Hall of Fame builder
Rick Dore sold in just a few days. Newsletter readers may have
noted that there was a sold sign on the ad the same day our newsletter
came out. Again last week we noticed that four 1955 Chevy customs
were sold. That trend had continued this week. So it looks like
classic customs are hot. And we should not let it go unsaid that
our website has SOLD six 1970-71 Dodge Challengers in
the past two weeks. Man, that feels good. For more on this see
the SOLD Feature below.
HOT MOPAR PROTOTYPE
Once in a while you hear a seller
say his car is the "best of the best." Sometimes they
are and sometimes not. But here is a car that literally defines
the phrase. A 1970
Dodge Challenger RT/SE Convertible
was delivered to Hutton Donaldson Dodge in Shreveport, Louisiana
with a production date of August 2, 1969. Because that dealership
was the largest in the region they had been given this promo
car, one of only six made, to tout the inaugural year of the
Challenger. Each of the promo cars was equipped with a 440 6
Pack, 4-speed Pistol Grip, 4:10 Dana rear gear with Super Track
Pack option and every available option for that year.
The current owner says that of those
six, this is the only one that remained in the hands of the original
owner all these years. It has just undergone a complete restoration
by reknowned Mopar expert Roger Gibson, and is now being represented
for sale by Show Your Auto.com. The description says it has zero
miles on a No. 1 condition concours restoration. They also describe
it as being a trailer queen and museum quality. The buyer will
receive two broadcast sheets and the original dealer paperwork.
This car will be sought after by the top Mopar collectors in
the country. You can find it today in the Cars On Line Mopar Muscle Car
Section.
RANDOM NEWS BITS
Classic pickup trucks are once
again commanding more attention in this collector car market.
We've noticed that our Truck
Section has climbed into the Top Ten
among the most popular sections on our website. Of course, the
Camaro
Section is still No. 1 followed by
the Classic
Dodge Section and Classic
Plymouth Section. Both of the later
categories are pumped up by the demand for Mopar muscle cars
... on AOL this week they showed some
statistics about the new car market that are pretty revealing.
What do you think was the best selling vehicle in September?
The Toyota Camry? No. The Ford Fusion? No. The Honda Civic? No.
The top selling vehicle in the United States in September was
the 2010 Ford F-150 Pickup Truck. Ford sold 33,877 F-150 trucks
in September according to AOL's news feed. The 2010 Ford Fusion
is the best selling car overall for the entire 2010 sales year
so far.
TOP VIDEO ADS THIS WEEK
The hottest video ad this week
is one done by Show Your Auto.com, a small company that represents
some large collections. Many of the top collectors around the
country do not have time to sell their own cars
so they hire companies like Show Your Auto.com to thin their
herd. One of the things that Show Your Auto.com can do for them
is produce a video that will inspire sales. They did one on a
1970
Plymouth Hemi Road Runner from Shreveport,
Louisiana. It comes from a collection of top muscle cars. Here is a link
to the video. It starts out by showing
you a view of how it would feel to drive in this Hemi powered
car. Then they actually show you how beautiful the undercarriage
is, give you a walk around and show you the Hemi engine compartment.
By the time you've seen the entire video you almost have performed
your own inspection. Now that's the way to sell a car.
Here are some more hot videos that came in this week.
HOOD ORNAMENT CONTEST
The hood ornament defined a
car back in the day. For some car enthusiasts, hood ornaments
are collector items in themselves. Are you one of those collectors?
If you
know your hood ornaments, you could win free advertising on the
Cars On Line website. Cars On Line.com is pleased to bring you
our hood ornament contest! This is a special feature just for
you, our newsletter readers. The first 10 people who correctly
guess the make, model and the year of the vehicle that wore the
hood ornament shown here will win a regular RUN-TILL-SOLD ad. This is a $45
VALUE. Click
HERE to fill out the contest form. Winners
will be notified by email. Remember, you MUST provide an email
address to be notified. (Hint: this hood ornament was used for
three model years.)
AMERICAN GREED
This week, an advertiser alerted
our office to a phone sales tactic that may effect people who
advertise on our website as well as all advertising websites
on the internet. It seems that a company in Las Vegas is contacting
our advertisers to convert them to an ad on their site. People
have been telling us that they paid exorbitant amounts to convert
to the more expensive ad package and did not get any response
from the ads.
One of our advertisers wrote us an email
asking us to get the word out about this company. They said they
had been contacted by a salesman for Sure Sell Autos.com. The
salesman told our advertiser that their asking price was too
low and assured them that he could get them more money for their
car if they advertised through his program. He promised that
their vehicle would be advertised on multiple internet sites
with the purchase of one of their advertising packages. He said
Sure Sell Autos.com offers to take care of all the details in
the sale including financing for the buyer, warranty and shipping.
"They promise to run ads on lots of internet sites for you,"
the advertiser told us. Sure Sell Autos.com charged this advertiser
$600, according to their complaint.
This company called Sure Sell Autos.com
does have an internet website. The site is registered to an owner
in Las Vegas, Nevada. Evidently their M.O. is to contact people
advertising on well known websites and try to convert them to
using Sure Sell Auto.com. We looked them up on Ripoff Report.com,
a website that records complaints of internet abuse, and found
that there were some complaints against Sure Sell Autos.com.
One of the complainants said Sure Sell Autos.com told him they
would sell his car for 40 to 50 percent more than his asking
price. They told him if he bought their most expensive ad package
they could sell the car "very fast." He said that if
you don't bite on their first proposal they will begin lowering
the price until you accept their advertising. That is a classic
tactic used by time share sellers. He said that after a month
went by he checked the websites where the ads were supposed to
be placed and said he never found an ad for his car. We also
checked with the Chamber of Commerce and found that there were
many complaints against Sure Sell Autos.com.
"I fell for this scam and want
to let you and others know. DON'T GET INVOLVED with these (expletive
deleted)," our advertiser wrote in an email.
Newsletter readers know that Cars On
Line.com gets more page views than any classic car website on
the internet. There is no place better to advertise. That is
why both buyers and sellers feel so safe on the Cars On Line
website.
LOW MILES CARS
Show Your Auto.com describes this rare 1974
Plymouth Duster (above left) as having a Paxton Supercharged
360 engine. The color is said to be a special 999 coded gray
paint. They say the car is unrestored and original, including
the paint, with only 26k miles on the clock. You have to see
the SLIDE SHOW
ad on this 1965
Shelby GT350 SR (show above center), a tribute car made by
Unique Performance. At the time of its production this car was
featured in multiple magazines. It is the No. 40 car of only
40 produced. The seller says it has only 114 actual miles. Using
modern technology they say the 427 big block engine is faster
than the original Shelbys that it honors. The 1963
Chevy Impala Hardtop (above right) from Atwood, Illinois,
is said to have just 26k miles. The seller is a collector who
says the interior is "perfect original."

PROJECT CARS
Sometimes, to find the rarest of the rare, you just have to go
out to that ol' barn and see what's in there. This 1930
Auburn 8-95 Sedan (pictured above right) was literally found
in a barn, forgotten. Legendary Motorcar Co says it has
a solid all steel body. They believe it has been stored for 28
years, but with a little coaxing have started it and say that
it runs well. The seller of this 1955
Ford Thunderbird (above middle) in Port Lavaca, Texas says
this old classic was stored 30 years in a building. He says it
has a 292 V8 engine with matching numbers. And a 1969
Dodge Dart GT was lovingly covered and stored for 10 years
by its original owner. She is now offering it for sale. It does
not start and needs a headliner, but you can tell from the photos
that it is still in good condition.
And there's more:
