There were more people looking for collector cars this week. We noticed that the number of buyers using Google and Yahoo search engines had increased. That's encouraging. The numbers of buyers looking for collector cars for sale were down in the previous two weeks, but this week numbers have been better than any time in the last month. Hey things are looking up, inspite of a slow economy.

People are starting to tell us that they'd rather put their money in cars at this point than into the stock market. That probably has a lot to do with why more buyers are again coming into the collector car market. Another factor is that collector car prices have been declining in the past year. Today's prices are going to look attractive to investor types looking for somewhere to park their money.

SCYTHE TO BE UNVEILED AT SEMA
As the smoke clears a massive twin supercharged engine crackles in the background, and then they see it ... the one-of-a-kind space-age inspired Scythe, custom designed by GAS (Galpin Auto Sports) of Van Nuys, California. In a press release GAS described a recent unveiling of their one-of-a-kind Super Car called the Scythe. GAS president Beau Boeckmann said, "From the hand-made composite body and voice-activated onboard computer system, to the twin-supercharged 1,005 horsepower engine, this car was built to make a statement. In the 1950's and '60s, show cars were meant to shock and amaze people, and we wanted the same effect from Scythe but with a high-tech twist. This isn't a hollow concept car, it's a fully functional, incredibly fast and usable machine with a talking onboard computer and over a thousand horsepower running on methanol." The Scythe will be the main attraction at the SEMA show in Las Vegas next week, November 4-7, 2008. SEMA (Specialty Equipment Manufacturer's Association) is the biggest automotive industry trade show in the world. It is held each year at the Las Vegas Convention Center. The SEMA Show attracts more than 120,000 automotive industry leaders from over 100 countries. It is not open to the public, but if you know a body shop owner or parts dealer they can usually get you in.

The Scythe began life as a 2008 Ford Mustang GT Convertible. After the body panels were removed, the unibody structure was covered in clay, which was sculpted to match renderings drawn by famed Kustom Kulture icon Ed "Newt" Newton. Molds were pulled from the clay sculpture, and composite body panels were formed and fitted to the Mustang pan. Reverse opening cantilevered doors, a wrap-around pillarless glass cockpit with no B- or C-pillars and custom headlights and taillights surrounded by hand-made aluminum trim are the most notable changes in the incredible custom show car. Inside Scythe features an onboard Shuttle XPC computer that manages every function of the car and is controlled entirely by voice commands. Simply speak to the electronic personal assistant in your own words to do tasks such as turn on the stereo, windshield wipers, alarm and more. The twin Magnuson supercharged 5.0L racing engine with custom ported 24-valve SOHC cylinder heads pump out up to 1,005 horsepower. The car has 16.5" Wilwood 6-piston disc brakes. Galpin Auto Sports offers customizing and personalizing services on all new and pre-owned vehicles including collector and classic cars and is the official garage for MTV's Pimp My Ride.

ALFA ROMEO RETURN DELAYED ...
Because of the current economic slowdown in the U.S., Fiat has announced that it will not be bringing the Alfa Romeo back to the U.S. in 2010. They announced this week that plans to market Alfa Romeo in the U.S. have been put off until at least 2011. The plan to produce Alfa Romeos for the U.S. market was considered by its parent company Fiat. Fiat has attained a much better reputation for auto making since its last attempt at selling cars in the U.S. market. And General Motors has a 20 percent stake in Fiat. So the plan was to market Alfa Romeos through the GM dealerships here in the U.S. That is likely to happen now only after GM can recover from a weak sales outlook. They say they already have buyers lined up for the first batch of Alfa Romeo 8C sports cars (as pictured here.) GM will also offer an Alfa Romeo sedan and a Sport Utility vehicle.

TESLA MOTORS GOING PUBLIC? ...
Despite a scary economy in the U.S., Tesla Motors is still talking about an initial public offering (IPO) on Wall Street in the near future. Tesla is the company that has created the Tesla Roadster, an all electric car that has an exotic sports car look and is said to be able to do 0 to 60 in 4 seconds, and reach speeds of 135 miles per hour. Yet the Tesla convertible does not use a drop of gas. It is totally powered by batteries that extend the range of the automobile to 200 miles. People who have driven the Tesla say they are faster than a Porsche or a Ferrari. It achieves peak torque at 1 rpm and continues that kind of power through 13,000 rpm. They say the cost to recharge the lithium ion batteries is about 1 cent per mile. (
Click here for a video of the first test drives and interviews earlier this year.)

When the first orders were accepted on the Tesla Roadster in 2007 it only took three weeks for the first 100 orders to be placed. They were sold out in just three weeks. The base price on the Tesla is $109,000. Tesla Motors is set to produce 1,000 of the cars for 2008. Among the 570 people who have placed orders are California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger and actor George Clooney. (Here is a link to the Tesla Roadster at its first showing in the United Kingdom.) The Tesla Motors people say their mission is to create a high-performance car that is gentle on the environment. They believe eco cars do not have to be boring. I'm no tree hugger, but I like the potential here.

BUYING OPPORTUNITIES ...
A major collector from North Carolina has listed some very desirable muscle cars for sale this week. Here is a chance to acquire these highly sought after collector cars without paying the premium you might have to pay at the big auctions such as the Barrett Jackson. Same quality, much lower price. You're saving much more than the commission here. Take this 1969 Camaro RS Z/28 for instance. It has the Cross Ram intake making it one of the Top Ten most desirable muscle cars in today's collector car marketplace. This Lemans blue Rally Sport is one of approximately 3,045 69 Z/28 RS's produced. The seller says it has a date-coded and casting-number correct DZ code 302/290 horsepower engine with the very rare and very expensive Cross Ram dual quads, close-ratio Muncie M21 4-speed transmission and 4.10-geared 12-bolt positraction rear axle. He says it has won: AACA Jr National 1st place, AACA Senior National 1st place, Vintage Chevy Regional Meet judged 994 points out of 1000, and Classic Chevy Winter Nationals Platinum and Best Paint awards. This sensational car is offered for sale and priced well below what it would get at the Barrett Jackson auction with an asking price of $99,000.

Another outstanding car from the same collection is a 1971 Corvette LS6 Convertible. There were just 188 of these incredible cars ever made. They were among the last of an era of muscle cars that relished in their high compression engines and unrestricted exhaust systems. In '71 only the Corvette would get the LS6 engine with 425 horsepower and 475 foot pounds of torque. It ripped off a 5.3 second 0-60 time, and it is said to have done the quarter-mile in 13.8 seconds. Of the 188 that were built only a handful has the LS6 package in a convertible and with a 4-speed transmission like this one. (Recent statistics show that only 24 LS6 Corvettes are known to exist.) You may have seen one of these cars go for over $170,000 at the Barrett Jackson auction. But you can own this one today for just $88,900. See more of this incredible collection of muscle cars from Concord, North Carolina on today's New Listings page.

P.J.'s Auto World is one of the premier collector car emporiums out of Clearwater, Florida. Today you will see literally dozens of fresh listings from them in a wide variety of classics, late model sports cars, exotics, neo-classics, muscle cars and even a tuner (sport compact.) This 1935 Nash Lafayette Business Coupe is a fine example of the type of car you'll find at P.J.'s. They say it was restored for a Belgian collector and later returned to the U.S. It has beautiful dark maroon paint with pinstripes, wide whitewalls, Mohair interior and simulated woodgrain dash. It has an L-Head inline 6 cylinder with Marvel "B" carburetor and a 3-speed transmission. See a huge selection of fresh listings from P.J.'s Auto World when you click this link.

LOW MILES CARS
There are some spectacular finds in our Low Miles Section today with this 1970 Plymouth Superbird taking top honors this week. The privately owned Mopar from Sussex, Wisconsin is said to be a numbers matching survivor with a 440 6-pack, 390 horsepower, automatic on the column, original Tor-Red paint, black interior, with original sheet metal and interior. The seller says he even has the original window sticker, bill of sale, broadcast sheet, owner papers and more. The most important thing about this car however is that the description says it has only 19k original miles.

Dan Schmitt & Company have a 1954 Buick Special in their gallery at their St. Louis store which they say has only 32k original miles. And a private collector from Lawton, Oklahoma listed a 1967 Pontiac Bonneville Convertible, and he says it has just 35k original miles.

A 1987 Chevy Monte Carlo SS Aerocoupe has been offered for sale by Texas Muscle Cars out of Princeton, Texas. They say it has 28k original miles. And a 1986 Mustang GT Convertible from Carson City, Nevada is listed as having only 27k orignal miles and a price tage of just $10,500.

Low miles cars are being listed daily. You can keep on top of the most recent listings by checking the New Listings page.

PROJECT CARS
P.J.'s Auto World
in Clearwater, Florida has a very nice looking 1958 Ford Retractable which they say is a complete car and would be an excellent car for restoration. Now retractables are never easy to restore, but if you were going to do that this one looks like an excellent car to restore. You be the judge. There is also a 1964 Chevy Impala Convertible from Falls Creek, Pennsylvania and the description says it would need some TLC. It might be another easy custom restoration. A 1966 Dodge Coronet from Greencastle, Pennsylvania looks interesting. The seller says much work has already been done. It comes with a 440 big block motor and a 727 transmission. And a 1971 Plymouth Road Runner Street Custom from Beaver Dam, Wisconsin is said to be a real M code car which needs TLC. The ad says it will need a trunk floor pan, brake booster, etc. But the car looks great.

A Holbrook, New York collector says his 1959 Pontiac Catalina would be an easy resto on a very rare car. The real sleeper of this group could be the 1967 Mercury Cougar XR7 which comes with a 390 big block and is said to be a real GT.

If you are looking for a project car to restore, make sure you watch our New Listings page for daily updates. Or you can view hundreds of project car ads in the Cars On Line Project Car Section online.

DEAL OF THE DAY
Here in the Cars On Line Daily Update newsletter readers get to preview the cars that will be in our DEAL of the DAY feature for the coming week. These are the cars that the Cars On Line staff judges to be the best deals on our website. The average buyer has to wait till next week to see all these bargains when they appear on our home page. However newsletter readers get to preview them here first.

We've been noticing that Pontiac GTOs are still one of the most sought after cars among internet buyers. Goats are still very popular muscle cars, always will be. So we were pretty excited to see this 1969 Pontiac GTO listed from West Babylon, New York with a very affordable price tag. The ad description is anything but wordy. It tells you that the engine is a 400 cubic inch V8 with a 4-speed transmission. The seller says the numbers match on the engine and the transmission. He also says that it has all original sheet metal with no replacment panels! Grab the phone right away because this car will be our DEAL of the DAY on Saturday. The asking price is just $26,500.

A very rare Mopar has been listed from Shawsville, Virginia. It is a 1968 Plymouth Barracuda which the seller says has a 340 4V. Now if that engine is original to this car you've got an amazing buy here. Even if it isn't, this car looks so nice it is still a deal as a driver class car. It is white with a black interior, center console, automatic transmission, 3.23 gears, new tires, Flowmasters, and many recent upgrades. The seller say it is all ready for Saturday night cruisin'. He says it is a really nice car. It will be our DEAL of the DAY on Sunday. The asking price is just $14,000.

Another very interesting muscle car was listed by P.J.'s Auto World of Clearwater, Florida. P.J.'s is one of the biggest classic car dealers in that part of Florida. They see a lot of great cars. They say this 1968 Chevelle SS is a real 138 code car with a 396 cubic inch big block motor, automatic transmission, power brakes, power steering, air conditioning, Edelbrock Performer intake with Flowmaster style exhaust. The interior sports traditional buckets, console and auxiliary gauges. The asking price on this car is $29,900. Where can you find a big block Chevelle Super Sport this nice for that kind of money?

Don't forget! Have these cars inspected before you buy. One man's great opportunity is another man's nightmare. You have to know if the car is right for you. See the Cars On Line Inspection Service page at http://www.cars-on-line.com/insp-1stpg.html

You can't overlook this stunning 1969 Buick Skylark Convertible which was just listed from Beverly, Massachusetts. The seller says the car has only 44k original miles which would be one reason this car still looks so good. He says it has new upholstery and carpeting, shocks, fuel pump, oil pump, new glass and new convertible top. It has a 350 V8 engine and the seller says the numbers match. He says it is mechanically sound and runs and drives as good as it looks. It has air conditioning, automatic transmission, power steering and a cd player. He says there are no leaks anywhere and it has a new rear end oil, transmission oil, engine oil, fresh brake fluid and a new master cylinder and booster. He says the car runs incredibly smooth. It will be one of the cars in our DEAL of the DAY feature on the front page of the Cars On Line website because asking price is just $16,000.

A smart seller placed a Slide Show ad on this 1973 Ford Bronco. It is smart because he wants everyone to see the detail on this dry desert truck from Phoenix, Arizona. He says it is the best unrestored original Bronco you will ever see. The description indicates it is a one owner truck in mint original condition. It still has original paint and it original interior, describing it as a "bone stock" sport utility. The seller says it was never driven off-road. He says he has all the original paperwork, and indicates that the truck runs and drives well. It has a 302 V8 engine, standard stick shift, air conditioning, stereo and radio. He says the truck is rust free. The ad copy notes that the truck was sold new in Arizona and is still in Arizona. It will be our DEAL of the DAY feature next week, 'cause the asking price is $15,000.

You can tell the quality of the custom bodywork done on this 1950 Ford Custom Convertible just from looking at the photos. Although it has some issues to take care of, the Byron, Michigan owner says it runs and drives very well. It has the Flathead V8, a front clip from a '51 Ford, a custom grille, '51 trunk lid with hidden hinges, a standard 3-speed transmission and headers with no tail pipes. Those are Mangels aluminum wheels, Michelin tires and it has bucket seats. In fact, the seller says the interior is new, as are the 12-volt wiring harness, aluminum radiator and the gas tank. He does reveal that the car has no top at this time, but he says he has the bows and header. It will be our DEAL of the DAY feature on the front page of the website next week with an asking price of just $18,000.

Don't forget! Have these cars inspected before you buy. One man's great opportunity is another man's nightmare. You have to know if the car is right for you. See the Cars On Line Inspection Service page at http://www.cars-on-line.com/insp-1stpg.html

This is a significant collector vehicle. It is a 1993 Chevrolet Indy Pace Truck, a special edition replica of the trucks used at the 1993 Indianapolis 500 Championship Race. Chevrolet provided the official Pace Car, the newly redesigned 1993 Camaro, and also provided the official pace truck for the event. There were 1,534 Pace trucks produced in 1993. They took longer than expected to produced because of the very special paint used. The Wickenburg, Arizona owner said he purchased the truck new at Champan Chevrolet in Tempe, Arizona. He says the front end has been rebuilt, the complete top end of the engine has been rebuilt, has a new air compressor, new radiator, new clutch fan, new timing belt, new water pump and hoses. The transmission has been rebuilt. It is a 100 percent rust free vehicle, he says. He indicates that it runs and drives excellent. It will be our DEAL of the DAY next week because the price is listed at $7,450.

Mopar lovers have to look at this ad on a 1972 Dodge Dart Swinger from Muncie, Illinois. You won't believe the price. This is not an original car, it is a very nice one. It has a rebuilt 360 ci V8 engine, 727 automatic transmission, 2800 stall converter, Hedman headers, Edelbrock carburetor, dual exhaust and a factory 8 3/4" rear end. The seller says it has the Sure Grip differential, polished aluminum wheels, new carpet, newer upholstery, new shocks and traction bars. It needs a little work to spruce up the paint and vinyl top installed. Hurry on this one. It will be our DEAL of the DAY next week if it lasts that long. The asking price is just $7,999.

The 1963 Plymouth Fury from Tempe, Arizona will not be in the DEAL of the DAY this week, but it should be. We just ran out of days. Yet this car is said to be a 1-owner Arizona car with a 361 V8 engine and the asking price is only $14,000.
