BREAKING NEWS! The collector car market is up 19 percent
since the lows of last January 2009. See the Cars On Line market
analysis below with a link to our chart of hot cars in the current
collector car market.
Have you noticed that in the last few weeks how many quality
street rods are showing up in our New Listings? There seems to
be a ground swell of activity in old school hot rods as well
as high tech street rods. Today you'll see a continuation of
that trend. Also see customs, street machines, Pro Touring cars
and Pro Streets ... the kind of cars that are creeping up in
value because of recent exposure from the Barrett-Jackson televised
auctions. You'll want to make sure to view these cars below.
The notable thing about our new listings this week is the number
of interesting project cars being listed. From Rolls Royce Phantoms
to Hemi Super Bees, the list of projects runs the gamut.
For a look at what's selling in the real world check the SOLDs Feature below. This week, there
is an amazing diversity in what is selling. One trend I've noted
is that '50s classics are still hot. 1955-57 Fords are as popular
as Tri Five Chevys in this market (althought most '50s Chevys
command a much higher price.) Project cars for restoration are
also very popular. I'd say about half of the cars SOLD
this week have PRICE REDUCED
tags. Be sure to check the Price
Changes page below to find out in real time which cars are
being marked down.
THE LAST "BIG HEALEY"
Talk about an incredible investment
play, here is what is said to be the last Austin Healey "Big
Healey" produced. Dan Schmitt & Company have
this 1967
Austin Healey 3000 Mark
III for sale. They say it just arrived
from Southern California and they describe it to be the "last
Austin Healey 3000 built and shipped to the U.S. They say that
their full documentation on this car includes factory records
and that the car is British Motor Heritage certified. The car
came fitted with nearly every option, including wire wheels,
overdrive, laminated windscreen, adjustable steering column,
roadspeed tires, octagon wheel nuts and more.
We've seen how the prices on these Big
Six cylinder Healeys have exploded in recent years at the Barrett-Jackson
Auction in Scottsdale, Arizona. A few years ago, the price on
a freshly restored and detailed Big Healey crossed over the $100,000
mark. Now with the opportunity to acquire the last one produced
for export, just think of the investment potential that exists
here.
Dan Schmitt & Company has the knack for offering
rare and important collector cars. For
a look at the entire inventory at Dan Schmitt & Company's
gallery in St. Louis just click this link.
COLLECTOR CAR MARKET
UP 19 PERCENT
Here is some welcome news that
car collectors have been waiting to here. As a followup to last
week's story on the Barrett-Jackson Auction in Las Vegas we thought
we'd update our charts on market trends and pricing. Click
here for an analysis of pricing trends based on the most recent
Barrett-Jackson Auction. After having
the opportunity to see the average values on the chart and compare
them to last years numbers we can see that values are up 19 percent
since January of this year. Given that we are coming out of a
recessionary economy those numbers are inspiring. By reading
our analysis of price trends since January 2009, you can see
that collector car values are on an uptick.
CHICAGO AREA CUSTOM
BUILDER
Just in time for Halloween,
a custom car designer from the Chicago area has posted one of
his all time best builds. It is the nationally known "Voodoo
Kreeper," a kool kustom lead sled that breaks the mold for
klassic kustoms. When you get George Barris, Gene Winfield and
Darryl Starbird to sign one of your custom creations you really
must be doing something right. The 1953
Chevy Custom, dubbed the "Voodoo
Kreeper," has been listed for sale
from the Chicago area. View the SLIDE SHOW ad on
this unique lead sled and you know right away that it is something
special. This car was done by "Voodoo Larry" Tarantolo
of Schaumburg, Illinois. Out of his local shop he is turning
out some cars that are getting national attention. The "Voodoo
Kreeper" has exaggerated lines and graphics that accentuate
the custom cut. Its a total package, a new version of an old
school styling. Here is a chance to have one of the best from
Voodoo Larry Kustoms. What are early Gene Winfield cars going
for in California? Click
here for a link to Voodoo Larry Kustoms website to see more custom
creations and rat rods.
VIDEO IN THE PARTS
ADS
When we started the Cars On
Line Parts
Ads classified section of our website
we wanted to give collectors a huge marketplace where they could
find anything and become part of a big network of people who
deal in classic car parts and accessories. There just isn't anyplace
on the internet where you can find the kind of stuff you can
find in our Parts
Ads Section. A real collector friendly
kind of site. We like to think we have achieved some of what
we set out to do.
For instance, if you want to run a video
with your parts ad, Cars On Line will run the video for
no charge in our Classified
Parts Section. You'll notice today
that we have featured a neat video on a Rat
Street Motor which has been offered
for sale in the Hot
Rod Parts Section of the Classified
Parts Ads (click on the link for the
Hot
Rod Parts Section to see more high
performance engines for sale.) The ad says this is a 650 hp big
block street motor for sale by a hot rodder in Auburn Hills,
Michigan. He had the good judgement to send us the video. You
know we love good video and intend to display the heck out of
it.
More and more car guys are using our
Cars On Line Classified
Parts Ads to sell extra parts, engines,
transmissions, doors, quarters, interiors, wheels and more. And
why not? It's the biggest "swap meet" on the internet.
The ads in our Parts
Section are FREE! That's the best deal
on the internet for selling parts. In our parts section you'll
get noticed. After all, no classic car website on the internet
gets as many pageviews as Cars On Line.
LOW MILES CARS
Back in 1976, Cadillac dealers spread the commonly held theory
that the last great Eldorado Convertible would be a collector
car from the gitgo. So tons of people purchased cars like this
1976 Cadillac
Eldorado Convertible (shown above left) on speculation. Well
the truth is that these cars have not realized their potential,
not yet anyway. But what did happen is that a lot of these cars
have been preserved for us today with very low miles. This one
from Houston, Texas is one of those cars. They say it has only
19k actual miles. Another pampered treasure, the 1986
ASC McLaren Convertible
(shown above right) has a similar story. Ford had McLaren and
ASC do an aftermarket conversion on a limited number of Mercury
Capris. Classic Auto Showplace in Michigan has offered
this one for sale. They say it has just 29k actual miles.
Don't miss more low miles cars for sale today in the New
Listings, including these: You'll find hundreds more amazing, pampered treasures
in our Low
Miles Section which is devoted solely to collector cars that
have had loving care and light use.
PROJECT CARS
There are so many interesting project cars being listed this
week, it's hard to know where to start. The 1965
Mustang GT Fastback (shown above left) from Gainesville,
Virginia is a rare GT 2+2 originally Raven black, 4-speed and
air conditioning. This car would certainly be worth restoring.
And, oh my, when will you ever come across a Hemi project like
this one again? A Canadian collector has listed this 1969
Dodge Hemi Super Bee project car. He says it has the original
#s matching 426 Hemi engine. He also indicates that it has only
12k original miles. A Miami collector says this 1934
Rolls Royce Phantom is a "remarkable barn find."
In the descriptions he notes that it was stored 20 years, and
now needs a complete mechanical restoration.

PRICE CHANGES PAGE
There's a mystery car on the
Price
Changes page today. If you look at
the ad for a 1969
Oldsmobile 442 Convertible from Ormond
Beach, Florida you'll see that this muscle car looks to be a
Hurst Olds edition. The seller says it has a 455 HO big block
and dual quad carbs and a 12-bolt rear end. He says it came with
air conditioning, tilt steering and power options plus a tic
toc tach, and that the car has just 85k miles. But for some reason
the seller does not say it is a Hurst Olds, nor does he comment
on its originality. Could it be that he just forgot to list that
little detail? Or is this a clone? I don't know but we do know
that they reduced the price from $59,000 down to $46,000.
Here are more notable Price Reductions:

TODAY'S FEATURED NEW
LISTINGS |
STREET RODS FOR SALE ...
 |
The coolest hot rod in our New Listings today
is this 1932
Ford Sedan Delivery which was posted for sale by Classical
Gas Enterprises out of Texas. This uniqe custom hot rod delivery
has an old school rat rod design, but finished as a modern street
rod. They say there are only 200 miles on it since the build. |
 |
This is one reason why some rodders like the
glass body cars. The sleek look of this 1937
Ford OZE Roadster would have required significant skill to
build out of real steel. The finished look of a glass body car
is spectacular as you can see when they are done right like this
one. |
 |
Here is another "done" car, a 1941
Willys Coupe with Outlaw body and frame. The seller from
Lexington, Kentucky says it is rated at 750 hp out of a 355 sbc
with 350 Turbo, 871 Weiand Blower. They put the power to the
ground through a 9" Ford rear end and 411 gear. |
 |
Have you seen the video on this 1932
Willys 77 Sedan offered for sale by Gateway Classic Cars
in St. Louis? It's on our front page. This is a rare all steel
car, making it very valuable. Yet Gateway has it priced like
a starter car for only $39,995. |
 |
For those who love the resto rod look here is
a 1939 Ford
Phaeton from LaPorte, Indiana. The seller calls it the "best
of the best." He says it is all steel with a Mustang II
front end, vintage air and heat, classic gauges and Italian leather.
Car has been chopped 2" and has a new convertible top. |

MUSCLE CAR CLONES
A real 1970 Dodge Charger SE donor car was said to have been

Dodge Daytona replica (shown above left.) Cool Cars
of Pompano Beach, Florida offers this recreation and they say
it is equipped with a Mopar 440 big block and automatic transmission.

DEAL OF THE DAY
It is a sign of the times. Prices
continue to drop on some very nice collector cars. Newsletter
readers know that we feature the best ones here in the DEAL of the DAY
preview. In this DEAL of the
DAY section of our newsletter
we give readers first chance at the best deals among the fresh
ads on our website. Then during the coming week you'll see these
cars featured on the home page of our website in the DEAL of the DAY
graphic that looks like a "rear view mirror."
Chevelles are among the Top Ten Most Popular collector cars,
according to Google and Yahoo search engine statistics. Even
in this slow economy it is not often that you see a 1970 Chevelle SS big block car
advertised below $30,000. Yet a seller from Moravia, Iowa says
this is a 1970
Chevelle SS 396 which he says comes documented with a protecto-plate
and build sheets. According to the ad copy this Chevelle has
a numbers matching 396/350 hp engine, Turbo 400 automatic transmission,
power steering, power disc brakes, 12- bolt rear, 3.31 gears
and F-41 suspension (front and rear sway bars.) The color is
Astro blue with black buckets with a console. You will notice
that the seller says there are some problems that will need attention
on this car. It will be our DEAL of
the DAY on Saturday because the asking price is just
$23,500.
'50s cars are so hot and here is one of the most popular and
hard-to-find. A 1958
Chevrolet Impala 2-Door Hardtop has been listed by a collector
from Minneapolis, Minnesota. Now it is obviously not all
original because the first thing the seller tells you in the
ad copy is that it comes with a 350 engine with Turbo 350 transmission.
From the photos and the description we figure this car is no
better than a No. 3 driver class car, maybe less. You should
have it inspected before you buy it. The seller says it has a
good body with a minimum of rust, and that he has added power
disc brakes, and that it has many other updates. Hurry, though.
It will be our DEAL of the DAY on Sunday, with an asking price of $13,500.
Street rodders ponder this question all the time. How much
more valuable is an all steel car than a fiberglass bodied car?
Some hobbyists prefer the glass cars because of their extreme custom look. Purists however
will only go for the all steel cars, and when a steel car is
offered for sale it usually increases the value. A 1939
Ford Business Coupe has been listed from Fergus Falls, Minnesota,
and the selle says it is all steel with an original front axle,
power steering, non-power front disc brakes, a sbc 350, Turbo
350 transmission and 12-bolt Chevy rear end. They say it is an
older restoration and probably would be considered a driver class
car. This car is what we call a raw starter type car. It will
be our DEAL of the DAY next
week because it is very affordably priced at $19,500.
Don't forget! Have these cars inspected
before you buy. One man's great opportunity is another man's
nightmare. You have to know if the car is right for you. See
the Cars On Line Inspection Service at http://www.cars-on-line.com/insp-1stpg.html
Another big block Chevelle was listed from Huntington, New
York. The private seller discloses that his 1966
Chevelle SS 396 has an NOM engine, but says it is a real
138 Code Super Sport car, ready to show
or drive. He says it has all original body panels, restored from
top to bottom, kneeknocker tach, M22 Rock Crusher 4-speed transmission,
and all body panels line up as they should, underside is very
nice, trunk is clean and original looking with light work done
years ago. He says it runs and drives like new. It will be our
DEAL of the DAY later in
the week. The asking price is only $22,800.
Dollar for Dollar this is probably the best deal on our website
this week. Take a look at the photos on this 1983
Chevy Dually Custom from Sand Springs, Oklahoma. Look what you get. The seller says it comes
with beautiful custom paint and ground effects, 1989 frontend,
custom interior with embossed flames on all four door panels
and headliner, Dakota Digital gauges, tinted glass, am/fm/cd
player, amplifier and rear airbags. He says the undercarriage
is as clean as the outside. Note the dual exhaust and headers.
He says it has been lowered with dropped spindles. More important,
he says it runs strong and shifts smooth. It will be our DEAL of the DAY next week because
this truck is priced at only $7,495. That's a lotta truck for
the money.
It's fun to see a late model 2007
Chevy HHR done as a custom. This one is from Cape Coral,
Florida and the price is outstanding for this vehicle. If you
need a daily driver, here's your ride. The seller says this
is a show winner and competed under the title, "The Hauler."
It is nicely equipped with S/S Moon Disk wheels, oval S/S exhaust
tip, air bags and window vents. The seller says it is a very
comfortable ride, and says there are only 19k original miles.
It comes with the automatic opening side doors. The paint alone
cost $5,000, according to the ad copy. It will be our DEAL of the DAY next week, if it
doesn't sell before then, because the asking price is only $14,900.
Don't forget! Have these cars inspected
before you buy. One man's great opportunity is another man's
nightmare. You have to know if the car is right for you. See
the Cars On Line Inspection Service at http://www.cars-on-line.com/insp-1stpg.html
A 1969 Chevrolet
Custom 10 Pickup truck looks especially nice in the ad photos.
It comes from a private seller in Allentown, Pennsylvania. All
that can be known about it is from the ad copy. It has a long bed, and the seller says it
has been frame-off restored with everything new except mirrors
and side cab glass. The seller says it was restored back to its
original condition as it was in 1969, and he says it looks, runs
and drives like a new truck. It has a V8 automatic with factory
power steering and brakes. It will be featured in our DEAL of the DAY on the front page
of our website next week ... the asking price is $15,000.
More cars could have qualified for this week's DEAL
of the DAY feature than we have days to publish them.
Often there are more cars than we can feature on our front page
every week. Here is a list of cars that just missed the cut for
the DEAL of the DAY feature.
