What's selling in today's collector car market? Pedigree, numbers matching muscle cars are a big attraction for those buyers who are lucky enough to be flush with cash. They consider the current market to be a buying opportunity. And they're right. We've noticed that in the past week sellers were lowering the prices on their cars in mass. Don't fail to check the Price Changes page today. When sellers reduce their price, the hit counter on their ad starts to get active. You'll see a sharp '57 Chevy Bel Air from Alabama for $18,500; 1958 Chevy Impala Custom from California for $23,500. You'll also find big block Mopars and Corvettes at greatly reduced prices. And there is a nationally known Deuce Coupe that has been slashed to half its original asking price. Also see the DEAL of the DAY feature below. There are some nice prices on muscle cars and '50s cars there. You may even find a 1970 Corvette Convertible listed for $26,500. Raises your eyebrows, doesn't it?

Oldsmobiles are extremely popular in this current collector car market. Classic '50s cars and '60s and '70s muscle car era Oldsmobiles are hot. I can't offer any special insight as to why. They just are. Check the SOLDs Feature below and you'll see we're selling a high percentage of Oldsmobile collector vehicles. Also, street rods are very hot in this current market.

FORD BETTERS TOYOTA

At least something is going right in America. In the post-Cash for Clunkers era, Ford is fast becoming the most successful car company, at least in the American Domestic market. The statistics are out for September domestic sales, and Ford Motor Company tops the list for American and Import manufacturers of production cars sold here in the United States. September statistics from Wards Auto.com show that Ford was down only seven percent from last September. That is the best of all the large automotive manufacturers. By contrast, General Motors was down 47.2 percent below last September's sales numbers, and Chrysler was down 44.5 percent. That means they are only selling a little better than half the cars they were a year ago. And if you remember, they were losing money even then. Toyota was down 16.1 percent, not as bad as GM and Chrysler but still a long way from profitability.

Although Ford wins out by virtue of having the smallest loses, they are still losing money. But they are a lot closer to turning a profit than any other company doing sales in the U.S. In terms of pure numbers, GM still owns 20 percent of the American market compared to Ford's 15 percent. Toyota captures 16 percent of American car sales.

Click here to view the results for September U.S. Light Vehicle sales. This link will take you to Wards Auto.com, with definitive results for statistics dealing with U.S. automotive production. Then click the "view data" link. It will open a Microsoft Excel spreadsheet filled with interesting facts that you won't find in the mass media.

BARRICADE FOR SALE
Ask any American kid between 10 and 12 years old and they'll tell you who "Barricade" is. It is the name of one of the Transformers in the new Transformers 2 movie, Revenge of the Fallen which was released this summer. The 2005 Saleen Mustang is now up for sale by a private collector from Miami Beach, Florida. They say this car was actually designed and built by Saleen, not a typical movie car that was cobbled together in the backlot just to look good in a scene. Barricade was a main character in the movie and is very popular with kids. The seller says Barricade has a "hideaway drivers seat." This may be a rare opportunity to own a movie vehicle that has lasting collectibility. There is no doubt that Transformers 2 will be a classic. By the way, the Blue Ray DVD is set to come out in October. Can't wait.

EVERYBODY LOVES THE LOWRIDER
Attention to detail is the key ingredient in what makes this 1963 Chevy Biscayne Lowrider such a sharp car. It's the whole package. But if you didn't watch the video you wouldn't get the whole idea of what this car is all about ... with sound, crackling cammed up motor and four-corner Air Ride suspension. See the custom two toned dark green and silver show quality paint, matching custom two-toned leather interior, ’70 dated coded 396 ci/350 hp engine, Edelbrock 4 bbl, Edelbrock Performer RPM aluminum intake, mild camshaft, ’70 dated coded 396 ci/350 hp engine, Edelbrock 4 bbl, Edelbrock Performer RPM aluminum intake, mild camshaft, B&M shifter, factory dash, VDO gauges, power front disc brakes with Corvette calipers and slotted & drilled rotors and Flowmaster exhaust system. This is a lotta car for the guy who wants a ride that nobody else can have. See the car lowered almost to the ground in the video. This is a great example of what video can do for you when selling a car. Southern Motors of Clarkston, Michigan uses video as well as anyone. Here is a link to the Southern Motors inventory. Most of their ads have videos like this one. They have some of the best prices on muscle cars you'll find in today's market.

BIG DADDY ROTH's PERSONAL DRIVER
Although he is famous for designing the Rat Fink, Outlaw, Beatnik Bandit, Orbitron and many more custom culture visions, the late Ed "Big Daddy" Roth had an everyday driver that he truly loved, a little 1973 Honda 600 Microcar which is for sale in our Celebrity Car Section today. Once he got it, the Honda 600 Coupe was quickly painted to promote Roth's skills (see photos in ad.) The tiny Coupe performed yeoman duty over the next few years before being replaced by a series of Honda Civics. As well as being used for advertising, the diminutive Honda hauled VW trike bodies and parts on a regular basis. Time has taken its toll on the rocker panels which call for repairs. Inside the interior is complete but some areas will require renewing. The Miami owner says the Honda's 600cc engine runs well. One of the photos in the ad shows Roth with the car. See more microcars from this collection below.

TODAY'S TOP COLLECTOR OFFERING
Here's a HEADS UP to Corvette collectors.
I've seen these cars perform in Nostalgic Drag Races where stock factory original cars are pitted against each other. These stock L89 Corvettes are Hemi killers. That's why when we saw that Streetside Classics in Charlotte, North Carolina had listed this 1968 Corvette L-89 Convertible for sale we got pretty excited. And we should be excited. They say it is fully documented, with a numbers-matching L89 aluminum 427/435 horsepower power plant. They say it has only 47,000 original miles (those miles are documented) and the entire drivetrain is #'s matching from engine to rear end. According to the ad copy, this is a west-coast semi-survivor car that has received one high quality repaint and has a brand new interior as well. Streetside says the #'s matching engine and transmission have less than 2,000 miles since being rebuilt. You don't see one of these come along everyday. And the price is pretty reasonable for what this car is. When Streetside listed this car in our Corvette Section they did not indicate in the lead-in that this was an L89 convertible. So newsletter readers have first shot at it. This is a real investment play. Click here for a look at the entire inventory at Streetside Classics.

CLASSIC CORVETTE
Specialty Sales
of California has been listing some nice classic Vettes this week. Here is a very rare and desirable 1954 Corvette Convertible with the 235 ci Blue Flame inline 6 cylinder, a lot of engine for so light a car. This car was equipped with a Powerglide automatic transmission. Remember, 1954 was the lowest year of production for the Corvette. This car is one of only 3,640 produced. By December of 1954 almost one third of that number remained unsold. Things looked grim for America's first sports roadster at that point. They say it still has its California black and yellow plates. Horsepower was increased to 155 by mid-year trying to make the little sports car more attractive to buyers. Because so few were sold that year it makes the '54 the rarest model to own among the first generation solid axle Corvettes. Specialty Sales has flooded our online menus with new listings this week. Both their Benicia and Pleasanton locations have offered fresh listings. Click here for a look at their entire inventory.

LOW MILES CARS
Again this week, Northwest Auto Sales in N. Canton, Ohio has come up with a significant collector car that they say has very low original miles. They listed a 1978 Corvette Indy 500 Pace Car which they say has only 17k actual miles. They describe it as being a clean L-48 Corvette with automatic transmission. They also indicated that it is an excellent driving car with power windows, power steering, glass T-tops and an excellent frame and undercarriage. They note that the original window sticker and delivery sheet go with the car.

Don't miss more low miles cars for sale today in the New Listings, including these:
1987 Corvette Convertible 20k miles Crestwood, KY
1987 Mustang Convertible 14,800 miles Peckville, PA
1988 Camaro IROC-Z 41k miles Baltimore, MD
1977 Corvette 41k miles N. Canton, OH
You'll find hundreds more amazing, pampered treasures in our Low Miles Section which is devoted solely to collector cars that have had loving care and light use.

PROJECT CARS

1963 Polara Convertible
needs quarters, trunk pan

1972 Ford Gran Torino
says #s matching

1965 Corvair Convertible

mechanically sound

A 1963 Dodge Polara Convertible (shown above left) from Dover, Ohio looks so good in the advertisement that some might think it is a driver class car for sale. Looks can be deceiving. Luckily the seller tells us in the ad copy that this car will need front and rear quarters and a new trunk pan. It looks like it would be a very clean and easy restoration however. In the center photo above, a 1972 Ford Gran Torino is said to be numbers matching by the Raleigh, North Carolina seller. These cars are hot since the movie "Gran Torino" with Clint Eastwood. And a 1965 Chevrolet Corvair Convertible has been offered for sale by a Lafayette, Indiana collector. He says it is a 140 hp Corsa model with a 4-speed. Although you can see it needs some body work in the photos, the seller says it is mechanically sound and has many new parts.

And there's more:
1970 Oldsmobile Rallye 350 Chisholm, MN

solid, console, buckets

One you may never have heard of is the 1961 Heinkel Trojan 200, known in Europe as the "better Isetta." It is actually lighter than the BMW Isetta. It has a 1 cylinder motor, 198 cc. With only 55k kilometers on the odometer it has received a complete restoration.

CLASSIC SPORTS CARS ...

A car so rare that I had never known it existed ... here is a 1963 Sabra Roadster, one of only 5 known to have been brought here to the U.S. The seller from Sunny Isle Beach, Florida says the top speed on these cars was impressive. It comes from an exclusive private collection.

Another Florida collector has offered his 1959 Austin Healey Bugeye Sprite for sale in racing trim. The seller doesn't offer much detail about the car so you'll have to call him for more info. The price would indicate an excellent example. See more for sale in the Austin Healey Section online.

A funny thing happened last year. When most collector cars were going down in value the '65-'66 Shelby GT350's were holding their ground ... never dropped a wit. That why this 1966 Shelby GT350 from St. James City, Florida is an investment play.

We could hardly wait to show you this first great muscle car in our featured DEAL of the DAY this week. We were afraid it would sell over night before we could show it to you here. Feast your eyes on a 1969 Mercury Cougar Eliminator, said to be the real deal by the seller from McKeesport, Pennsylvania. What's more he says the numbers match. He says he has the dealer invoice. It is one of only 100 such cars made with these options, 351 Windsor engine and a 4-speed transmission. That color is called Competition orange. The seller says this vehicle has only 58k miles and is a very nice car that has never been restored but has been repainted. He says it runs strong. You know how hard it is to find a real Eliminator. It will be our DEAL of the DAY on Saturday. The asking price is $17,000.

This Mopar muscle car looks so good in the photo that we can hardly believe they are offering it for such an affordable price. The 1971 Dodge Charger R/T from Madison, Wisconsin is said to be a real numbers matching 440 big block Charger. The seller says it has an A727 Torqueflite automatic transmission and an 8 3/4" rear axle. He says the body is solid and the interior is very nice. He also says the motor is strong and the car still handles well. He says he has all the paperwork including the build sheet, original bill of sale from the dealer and the brochures from when it was new. If you are knowledgable about these cars, here is a chance to get a DEAL of the DAY because it is priced at $18,000. Be aware that the seller says it is not a perfect car and you should have it inspected before you buy it ... just to get an idea of how much work the car might need.

Our Pro Street Section is among the Top Ten Most Popular categories on our website. Pro Street cars often get the most hits of any ads on our website. So you can imagine how popular this 1969 Chevelle Pro Street from Moline, Illinois is likely to be during the coming weekend. When word gets out about this one, eyes will be popping. This beautiful Cortez silver car has a 468 cid big block, Turbo 350 automatic transmission, 3" exhaust and "Noisy" Milodon gear drive. They say it has been tubbed with a 12-bolt posi, 430 Richmond gear, Mickey Thompson 33x21.5x15 on the back and a 15-gallon fuel cell with 90 ohm sender. And there is so much more. Just read the entire ad. It will be our DEAL of the DAY next week with an asking price of $17,500.

Don't forget! Have these cars inspected before you buy. One man's great opportunity is another man's nightmare. You have to know if the car is right for you. See the Cars On Line Inspection Service at http://www.cars-on-line.com/insp-1stpg.html

Here's proof that lightning does strike twice. Here is another classic Pontiac GTO for under $20,000. A 1966 Pontiac GTO has been listed by a seller from Towaco, New Jersey. You will note that the seller makes no representations about originality. This is very likely a driver class car. He says it runs great with new brakes and shocks. He also notes that he has an automatic transmission and console to go with the car. Even if it is not show quality, this is a rare car and our DEAL of the DAY later in the week. The asking price is only $18,000.

Oh, man, you talk about a great collector find. Here is a 1951 Kaiser Special offered for sale by a Kaiser collector in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. The seller told us he only collects classic Kaisers. It is his specialty. He says it has spent most of its life in Arizona and Nevada, and is probably the most rust free example you'll find for sale. He says the Kaiser Supersonic flathead six cylinder engine runs flawlessly. Now here's the best part. It will be our DEAL of the DAY next week because this car is priced at $10,500. Am I being punked?

Watch out. If you are a Corvette guy you might just start salivating like a dog over this one. A 1970 Corvette Convertible has been listed for sale from Oregon, Ohio. They say it has an original matching numbers 350/300 hp engine with upgraded hardened valves, automatic transmission, power steering, power brakes, tilt telescopic steering wheel and even comes with the auxiliary hardtop making it a true roadster. He says much is new or professionally rebuilt. Note: it would seem from the description that this car has not been restored. Confirm that. It will be our DEAL of the DAY next week ... are you ready for this? ... the price is $26,500!

Don't forget! Have these cars inspected before you buy. One man's great opportunity is another man's nightmare. You have to know if the car is right for you. See the Cars On Line Inspection Service at http://www.cars-on-line.com/insp-1stpg.html

Four-door Cadillacs may not be as desirable for collectors, but they are still Cadillacs and have a great following among lovers of big luxury cars. Here is a 1958 Cadillac Sedan DeVille just listed from Niagara Falls, New York. I'm expecting that it would be considered a driver class car from the description. The seller say the body, drivetrain and paint are just good, but that the interior is excellent. The mileage is recorded at 62,000. It has power steering and power brakes. Anyone would be interested in this car at this price. It will be our DEAL of the DAY priced at $15,500. That's walkin' around money.

HEADS UP: Just before we were ready to publish this newsletter a 1955 Ford F100 Stepside came through our New Listings page. It is offered for sale by a collector from Helena, Arkansas. He says it is an older restoration. The descriptions says it has a 292 ci V8 with a 3-speed on the floor. Somebody must have added bucket seats. The seller says it has new chrome bumpers both front and rear, dual exhaust, new chrome grille, forward opening hood and raised letter tires on chrome rims with moons. You've gotta see this one. The asking price is only $8,500. Hurry!
