Chevy Nomad Bel Air Wagon. A stock 1955 Chevy Nomad in excellent condition. Perfect for Retro Mod. This Nomad looks just like the General made it with the classic Gypsy Red & India Ivory two tone paint with matching waffle interior. The pictures speak for themself with all Tinted
Glass in excellent shape and all roll up and down and slide back and forth like they should. The head liner is outstanding and the SS and chrome is excellent. Correct bias Wide Whites on stock wheels and full deluxe hub caps. The interior appears to be redone 8-10 years ago but again look at it, it is stunning! The wonder bar radio is there but just hums with no reception, the clock does not work like the rest of GM's old clocks, Signal sighter on dash appears to be original, Horn, Turn signals, Head lights, Brake lights all work but the Emergency Brake does not, all parts are there just needs attention. All interior lights work except one on the instrument panel. The working speedometer shows 100,655 miles and I believe that to be correct. THE MOTOR & TRANS: The number stamped on the block pad reads 0590127. F56FB which means F= Flint, 56 = Model year, FB = 265 w/ Powergulide & 4bbl Carburetor. The 56 means the motor is a 56 model so it could have been a Dealer replacement early in it's life BUT this block has a oil filter! There where NO castings for oil filters on 1955 265's motors But mid way through production in 1956 the 265's block castings did get the canister type oil filter. So this Nomad has a rare oil filtered 265 motor. The 4 bbl has been replaced with a 2 bbl. This motor is bolted to the original cast iron Powergulide transmission and they both work great. The 265 will smoke a little on start up but has good power and runs smooth, the PG trans shifts like it should.
PAINT FIT AND FINISH. It's beautiful, Shinny paint, some of the nicest Chrome and SS trim I'v seen on one. Car has a nice stance too. I could go on but only your inspection counts.
DRIVING: Stops, Starts and Steers like it should if it could be improved a round of radial tires would be the best investment. No over heating problems, no leaking heater core, just a very nice 55 Tri Five Nomad.
