Dodge Polara 500. 2 Door Hardtop. I am the third owner of this approximately 106,000 mile car. According to the widow of the previous owner, the car was bought new on the East Coast and in 1963, her husband bought the car. I believe that it was in Tennessee from 1963 til 2005 when I bought it. The car is very straight and when we painted it 2 years ago we took it down to the bare metal and there was very little rust. I replaced the original 361 305hp engine with a built 383. I still have the original engine but it did sit out in the weather and even though it was originally wrapped in plastic, I believe that some water got in. I'll have to see if it is free. The original engine had been rebuilt when the car had about 95,000 miles on it. I installed the built 383 about 2 years ago but have only put about 500 miles on the car since doing so. The 383 has Crane Gold roller rockers, Crane cam, Crane electronic ignition, single plane intake, Holly 750 double pumper, and forged pistons (I believe). We had the car at a local drag strip this fall and it ran 13.80 with what turned out to be a bent pushrod. I believe the car is capable of low 13s and perhaps high 12s with minor tweaking. It is a pushbutton automatic (727) with a 3:91 posi. The guy who sold me the built 383 said I have never seen a 383 like this one. It will shred the rear tires from a standing stop. I agree with him although I'm not into shredding tires. The car is green with white trim and green interior. The interior was redone a few years back not quite to original but very close. It looks very good, but can use a little TLC which I am planning to do before selling the car. There are also some other minor things that need attention. I can sell the car as is and my price is $13,750. Or I can take care of the TLC things in which case my price is $14,750. Here is what needs to be done: The front area of the interior carpet needs cleaning if not replaced. The arm rests need to be redone The center console needs to be installed. Some of the pushbuttons, (mainly heater-related) need to be reinstalled. The headliner is sagging needs to be put back into place. Overall the interior is very good but not show quality. I mentioned that the car was repainted about 2 years ago. Since then it got a small ding on the driver's door. There is also a small area below the trunk lid where a trim piece was never reinstalled and a little surface rust is forming. There is a surface rust spot about 2-3 inches in diameter on the rear bumper. This is something I won't fix. The bumper should be rechromed. If you don't know the 62 Dodges let me offer the following. The Polara 500 was the top-of-the-line model of the Dart for 1962. It is a B-body car so it is intermediate in size. 1962 was the first year of the max wedge engined cars which set records at drag strips. It is a one year only body style. With 2 friends, I restored a 62 Polara 500 Convertible about 3 years ago (which I have sold) and I have owned 6 62 Dodges during the last 15 years. I believe I know these cars well. This is a good one. This car had add on air conditioning and while the compressor was taken off when I changed out engines, I believe I have it. The air worked fine before I changed engines. The first two pictures are of the car before it was painted. The third is one of just 3 that I currently have after the repaint. I will get more pictures next week. The forth picture is of the convertible we restored which I have since sold. (If you are interested, here is a link to a U -tube video of the vert. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GZ7VWJ95fkE There are 4 video clips of the car altogether on U-Tube.)
The car is located in Richmond, KY. Serious inquiries only please. (My eBay user name is rjskystuff and I have a perfect feedback record involving over 100 responses.)
Thanks for looking
