Mercury Cougar Hardtop. Rare 1970 Cougar Q Code 428 Cobra Jet and 4-speed. Ordered new: Bright blue, 3.50 traction-lok, medium blue interior, power disc brakes, power steering, AM radio, style steel wheels and rear window defroster. I have a Marti Report. Original vin plate in place. It is straight. The quarters are decent. Quarters look good from inside the trunk. The doors are rusty. Original glass is good. Shock towers and front rails are solid with factory reinforced shock towers. Good rear trunk floors/rails. The factory staggered rear shock setup is good. The floors have rust spots and the torque boxes have rust especially the driver box. There is rust on the outer rocker on the driver side, but the rocker bottom there is good. The interior shows usual wear. The bad about this Cougar is that the original drive train is long gone. The car now has a 351 Cleveland with Edelbrock intake, Accel distributor and solid headers. It looks like someone did a lot of work on the 351 engine. The dual exhaust is OK. It has a 9 inch rear with 28 spline axles and automatic transmission. I do not have keys for this car and the ignition switc was removed, but the steering column was not damaged so a new key kit should fix this. The engine looks clean and I was able to easily start it with a screw driver, but it ran rough. The lights appear to be OK. Clean valances too. Doors close good. The prior owner installed new rear springs and left the drive shaft in the trunk with accoutrements. I have a clean Maryland title in my name. Good project Cobra Jet, 4-speed Cougar.
