Mercury Cougar XR7. J-Code from the factory with tilt wheel, a/c, both consoles, saddle interior.
The engine is new 302 30 over pistons, 1970 block. 1968 original 302 j-code 4V heads. Aluminum intake, factory exhaust manifolds, new running cat valve covers, stock C-4 transmission. The rearend is 9" with 456 posi, new axel bearings and seals. New leaf springs and shackel kit. New exhaust, 2 1/4".
The front end looks to be done over with a manual steering kit - no more leakie power steering problems here.
Front disc brakes - new rotors and pads.
Interior is all new saddle including rug, headliner, and seat kit. Also, notice how i incorporated the 69 headrests into my 68 seats, which was an option in 68. The dash pad is perfect. The door panels are the originals along with the rear panels. New package tray, new bumpers front and rear.
The car is originally from Oakland CA. According to its mercury dso which is #53. It went to california and then to massachusetts. The window was left open and the rug got wet and led to the floor pans needing to be replaced. The rest of this car is in outstanding rock solid condition. The front and rear rails are perfect. The torque boxes are perfect. The trunk pans are perfect. The rockers are perfect. The radiator support is original. Both inner fenders are original and in perfect shape and are carrying their complete original vin stampings. The rear quarters are original and perfect. All body panels are the originals, including the splash pans.
Now for the gte stuff. As you have all noticed we have some nice gte stuff on this car. The paint scheme is gte, gte headlight bars - gte fender badges - gte blackout treatment on front and rear lights - gte rear tips - 427 gte hood scoop
For those who know the history on the gte they only made 394 of them. The first 357 were 427 gte's - the other 38 were 428 cobra jets. And, there were only 3 - 4speed cars ever made and only one was found and owned by jim pinkerton.
There are no used parts for sale for these cars and if there is they are rarely ever found. All my gte components are repro after market.
It took over 2 years to build this car to where it is now. The car runs and drives, but still needs a days work on minor thing, such as headlight vaccume hoses and blinkers.
There are many classics out there today, but i find the gte to be one of the rarest cars of all time. So, i decided to create my own gte clone. Now if you have the mighty big block 427, 428, or 390 engine and transmission you could easily drop that in this car and raise the value another 30k. The real gte is doing over $100,000.00, which most people can't afford.
I forgot to mention the wheels and tires which are new.
the door tag reads 65b 6- 6f- 26m -53 - 5 - w As I stated the power steering is long gone, replaced with all new manuel steering kit, including new pitman arm. The a/c stuff is gone. I still have the power steering stuff if someone wants it and i still have the a/c box. There is no heat - I ran a block off plate. This is a performance car with mean looks - lots of class and style- and it's ready to rock. Any questions please call. We have a lot of pictures. Please email me and i will send them to you. I would like to add there are a lot of things i forgot to mention - new gas tank, new sending unit - 4 new shocks - etc. I would like to point out the floor pans are just painted white and we left the rear rails unpainted in their original condition with no undercoating. This assures the original rock solid condition that I had mentioned to you. It wouldn't take much to detail that area. I just thought it would be better left untouched seeing some people don't like undercoating. PRICE REDUCED $ 17,900 |
