You've read about it in Super Chevy, Chevy Enthusiast and Max Chevy magazines. It is one of the most talked about 1969 Yenko Camaro Super Cars ever built. And now we have the video you have to watch to get the whole story.
"It is one of the rarest Camaros out there," says Chris Zlamal of Classic Cars of Sarasota. We are talking about a 1969 Yenko Camaro that is reported to be the prototype for the 1969 Yenko Camaro Super Cars. It is suggested that this COPO Camaro was first loaned to Don Yenko at Yenko Chevrolet in Cannonsburg, Pennsylvania by GM to be his "mule" to work out trim and badging for the SYC super car. Yenko had convinced Vince Piggins at Chevrolet to produce a special fleet order COPO invoice so he could order 100 L72 427/425 horsepower Camaros under COPO code 9561. That's the long story. The short take is that Yenko wanted Chevrolet to produce a factory built 427 ci V8 powered Camaro for him so he could sell more Yenko Camaros that year.
Many Camaro experts are convinced that this 1969 Yenko Camaro is the one Yenko used to promote his Yenko Camaro SYC for 1969. As the story goes, Yenko drove the 1969 Yenko Camaro prototype to Tennessee to promote the new look 1969 Yenko Camaro at a Chevrolet dealership there. But he was involved in an accident and the car was totaled while he was in Tennessee.
Fast forward to 1992, a racetrack owner named Jimmy Owens from Hartsville, Tennessee found a Camaro and recognized the SYC trim markings. By 1993 he had purchased the car and began a restoration on it. They say the odometer read 49k miles at that time. Then he discovered the VIN number on the car. Indications are that it may have been the No. 3 car off the line, which would confirm that it was the prototype car used by Yenko to model his first 1969 Yenko Camaro and wear the SYC trim.
Classic Cars of Sarasota tells us that hundreds of thousands were invested to restore this car. It comes with a binder of documents including letters from Jimmy Owen's son, a letter from GM, appraisals by Camaro experts and magazine articles featuring this car. It goes without saying that some of the top Camaro collectors in the world are going to be interested in this incredible find with all of its provenance. Be sure to follow this link to our blog site where you will read more about the 1969 Yenko Camaro prototype, and can watch a video which explains more about the car. Zlamal says the restoration is flawless.

We Be Autos.com, a consignment broker in New York, is offering a special collection of cars located in France. One of the rare vintage automobiles is a 1929 Cord L-29 Convertible, a luxury two-seater sports car back in the day. It was the Gatsby era, and E.L. Cord built stylish and rakish luxury cars to fit the times. They were equipped with Lycoming 8 cylinder engines and were the first mass produced cars in America to offer front wheel drive. In those days, front-wheel-drive was a way to allow the car to be built lower to the ground giving the Cord a lower profiled sleeker look. When the 1929 Cord L-29 was introduced Europeans began to take note of the design and it won awards at the Monaco Concours d'Elegance. Two months after the introduction of the L-29 however, the stock market crashed and it would only survive until 1931 when Cord ceased production. Contact We Be Autos.com to get information on having this American treasure shipped here to the U.S. You will find more stunning examples from this collection below in the Vintage Car Section of this newsletter.
Gateway Classic Cars in Orlando, Florida posted an ad for a rare and desirable 1954 Kaiser Darrin Roadster. While Kaiser used to argue that their unique Darrin was the first two-seater sports car made in America, it is usually agreed that the Darrin and Chevrolet's Corvette were running neck and neck to become the first American sports car. Of the two, the Darrin is the most unique. It featured a fiberglass body, sliding doors, wire wheel covers and a three position top. Only 435 Darrins were ever built before Kaiser ran into financial trouble. It was designed by the famous automotive designer, Howard "Dutch" Darrin. The car has the Willys Hurricane 6-cylinder engine with a Borg-Warner 3-speed transmission and overdrive. This truly historic sports car ranks as one of the finest designs in American automotive history.

Take a moment to sit back and relax as Joe describes the entire build, including the major fabrication work done on the body and the custom designed/fabricated exhaust system. The DEAL of the DAY preview gives you first shot at all the cars that will be highlighted in the DEAL of the DAY feature on the Cars On Line home page. Often these cars sell in the newsletter before they even make it to the home page! You'll always see them here first though.
Keep in mind that the first generation Pontiac Firebirds are one of the few collector cars which is going up in value in an otherwise downward trending collector car market. That's why this 1969 Pontiac Firebird posted by Vintage Motorcars of Sun Prairie, Wisconsin, looks like such a good deal. It will be our featured DEAL of the DAY on Saturday. This Poncho Pony features the original “numbers matching” Pontiac 350 which provides plenty of torque and power for this little car, says Vintage Motorcars. The quick 350 ci V8 makes this car a peppy ride. They think the automatic transmission may be the original also. Most important is the price, however. They are only asking $21,900.
Want a 1966 Mustang Convertible without paying the average price for a show car? Here is your huckleberry. This blue convertible with the white top and medium blue interior looks pretty nice for a fifty-year-old car. It has been owned in the same family for most of that time. They say it has been well maintained and always garage ketp. It has been restored to driver quality. They say they consider the interior to be in excellent condition. It comes with a C code 280 V8, automatic transmission, power top and under 111k original miles. Most important, they say it still runs like it was brand new. Be sure to look at the photos. It will be our DEAL of the DAY on Sunday. The price is well below the average auction pricing this year. They are asking $24,900.
The gold edition Pontiac GTO has always been very popular. Here is a gold 1966 Pontiac GTO 2-Dr Hardtop listed by Cool Cars of Pompano Beach, Florida. The gold paint and black vinyl top are said to be brand new. It also has the legendary Pontiac 389 big block motor with the aluminum air cleaner, what a great looking engine compartment. It also has the automatic transmission. The black interior with bucket seats and console are the right combination for the era. This one also has power steering and power disc brakes. Cool Cars has the Pontiac Historical Society documents. It will be our DEAL of the DAY because the asking price is only $27,500. That's about half the price of a No. 2 condition show car. Your job is to determine if this one could be a No. 2 car. Then you know you got a deal.
Wanna' have more fun than a barrel of monkeys? Vintage Motorcars of Sun Prairie, Wisconsin tells us this 1966 VW Dune Buggy purrs down the road with its 1600 cc VW sound and a 4-speed transmission shifting as it should. They say it is street legal with headlights, taillights, turn signals and seat belts. And at this price it is affordable. Think of the things you could do with this pretty buggy. The technology on this one is way better than the old California Baja buggy's you used to see. Check it out. It will be our DEAL of the DAY this coming week. The asking price is $9,900.
We've been watching the evolution of the retro Dodge Challengers ever since 2010 when they first came out. The high performance V8 models were still pretty pricey up until this year. Here is a 2013 Dodge Challenter R/T with the shaker hood, a premium edition, that is being advertised at just $24,000. Now that's what I'm talkin' about. That is a price range many more Mopar enthusiasts will be able to afford. It comes with the OEM Mopar shaker hood (badge and serial number to prove it) and red leather interior. The private seller from Iowa says it has been babied and garage kept its whole life. It will be our DEAL of the DAY later next week if it lasts that long.
A private seller from French Settlement, Louisiana has listed his 1972 Chevy Super Cheyenne Pickup for sale. The pickup truck itself is driver quality at best (see photos), but it comes with the big block 402 and a TH400 automatic transmission. The seller does not include information about its originality. That's up to you to find out by calling him. But he does say it runs and drives great. He also says the engine has been newly rebuilt from carb to pan. He says it has new paint but you can also see some rust when viewing the engine compartment. Better have it inspected before you buy. But the price is attractive on this one. It will be our DEAL of the DAY this week with an asking price of $17,000.
What you are looking at is said to be a "true survivor car," a 1972 Dodge Charger SE with the 318 ci Mopar V8, a bullet proof Mopar motor. American Classics & Hot Rods has just listed it for sale out of their Mankato, Minnesota store. They tell us the engine is original right down to the original spark plugs and spark plug wires. They also state that this Charger fires right up and will take you anywhere. They claim it to be "all numbers matching," something every collector cherishes. The undercarriage shot tells you this is an average No. 3 condition car at best. But it will be our DEAL of the DAY next week. The asking price is only $12,500. Will it last the weekend?
Often there are more cars that deserve to be in the DEAL of the DAY than we can schedule for our front page feature. Here is a list of cars that just missed the cut for the DEAL of the DAY this week. Remember, you saw them here first:
