Can you imagine pulling your Holman-Moody built 1964 Ford Galaxie 500 XL R Code 2-door up to a stoplight in 1964 and have some idiot in the next car give you the "go" sign? Think of the smile on your face as you watch him eating your exhaust in the rear view mirror. That is the kind of "sleeper" you see here. A NASCAR package in a luxury car. This is what legends are made of.
Streetside Classics just listed this incredible find for sale this week. They have it at their Charlotte, North Carolina store. (Follow this link to read more history and see dozens of detailed photos.) Indeed, just to find a 1964 Ford Galaxie 500 XL with the revered R Code 427 motor is rare enough by itself. But to then discover it has a Holman-Moody plate in the engine compartment ... well that will just make you sit back in your chair won't it?
Streetside Classics tells us that the vinyl top is very rare and seems to be original. In fact, they were told this is the only vinyl top the R Code Galaxie Registry has ever seen. The aerodynamic shape of the roof was for racing, but it was only used in 1964. You can see why Holman-Moody was so interested in the '64 Galaxie R Codes. They obviously were purpose built for racing.
Under the hood is an R Code 427 with big block power and tuned by Holman-Moody. Streetside Classics believes it to be the original motor. Only a handful of these cars came with the special transistorized ignition, and this is one of them. The NASCAR package detail is correct right down to the Detroit Locker rear end. Those wheel covers were specific to the R Code cars.
Be sure to click through to our blog site to read more about this Holman-Moody built 1964 Ford Galaxie 500 XL R Code car. It is the ultimate sleeper in "sheeps clothing."

If you followed our coverage of the 2017 Grand National Roadster Show this past weekend you know that Bruce Wanta from Bellevue, Washington won the 2017 America's Most Beautiful Roadster trophy for his 1936 Packard 1401 C Roadster (shown here.) You can see from the photo that the car actually has a retractable top. (Click the photo to see a video of the top going up.) We discovered the retractable top when our photographer Bob Boberg of eClassicAutos.com interviewed Wanta after he had won the AMBR award. Wanta said he always thought the '36 Packard had the most beautiful grille. That's why he wanted to build a Packard hot rod around the grille feature, "sweeping ... elegant ... but still had the DNA of a hot rod." We think he achieved his goal. In addition to the remarkable electronic roof, this Packard has a Lincoln Zephyr V-12 motor with period correct custom items such as the Hogan heads, Winfield D carbs and the Latham supercharger.
In case you missed it last weekend, you can review all the action from the 2017 Grand National Roadster Show at this link.
"Sold," Jim from Garnerville, Nevada told us. "Had a lot of vehicles on Cars On Line that sold. I also bought a lot of vehicles off Cars On Line. You do a great job." He SOLD his 1937 Ford 5-W Coupe using the $45.00 Run Till Sold ad. It is an all steel car, chopped, shaved and channeled. It has a Mustang II front, coil overs and 4-wheel disk brakes.

We witnessed a new trend evolve during the 2017 Barrett-Jackson Auction last month in Scottsdale as classic off-road customs drew surprising attention from investors. Remember the 1958 Dodge Power Wagon Resto Mod that sold for $115,000? Well here is a true classic custom restoration of a 1956 Chevy 3100 Suburban Carryall done as a tribute to the NAPCO conversions which were so popular during the late '50s.
The private seller from Springfield, Oregon says he bought the truck after it had been totally restored to original in 2013. Then he had it shipped to Arizona where one of the country's top NAPCO experts undertook the restoration to a NAPCO conversion. They removed the original automatic transmission, which was replaced with a correct 1956, 4 speed manual transmission, Spicer transfer case and Selectro heavy duty lock out hubs. The conversion involved a frame down rebuild including new drive shafts, leaf springs, shocks, stainless steel gas tank and much more. But don't be fooled. This is no trailer queen. The seller says it drives as it should with the stock inline-six Thriftmaster 235 ci engine, standard steering, drum brakes and manual transmission. Quite an unusual find, and right in the groove of this new trend in the collector market.
You know how Jay Leno always says "every car tells a story?" Here is one where the story is bigger than the car. A 1976 Cadillac Eldorado Convertible was born to be collectible right from the gitgo. Cadillac said it would be the last time the factory would produce a convertible version of the Eldorado, one of the most popular Cadillac brands of all time.
Now add to that the fact that this one was purchased by the Rock N Roll "King," Elvis Presley. And this is one of those instances where there is actually a documented paper trail to prove it. The Auto Collections in Las Vegas just posted this special 1976 Cadillac Eldorado Convertible for sale this week. They tell us Elvis purchased the car new and gave it to a friend in Mississippi. It was later purchased from Jimmy Velvet of the Elvis Presley Museum in 1982 by a private collector from Arizona. The Auto Collection says the trunk is full of Elvis photos taken by his entourage.
Speaking of Elvis and his Cadillacs, the Cadillac LaSalle Club of the Potomac has an article on Elvis' 1955 Pink Coupe DeVille in their "Caddy Chronicle" newsletter this month. The pink Cadillac he called "Gladys" is featured in the newsletter. (Photo shown here is from the new website ElvisCadillacs.com.) It was written by a member of the family that owned the Cadillac after it was given by Elvis to a friend in the Northeast.
You can become a member of the Cadillac & LaSalle Club Potomac Region by visiting their website: http://www.clcpotomacregion.org/
Their newsletter is sent out by email in a .pdf form. It usually has some interesting stories about Cadillacs and classics.

The DEAL of the DAY preview gives you first shot at all the cars that will be featured in the DEAL of the DAY section on the Cars On Line home page. Often these cars sell in the newsletter before they even make it to the home page! You'll always see them here first though.
In the world of muscle cars the Buick Gran Sport is a bargain. For whatever reason the Gran Sports have never gotten the respect that a Chevelle or GTO receive among investors. So special finds such as this 1972 Buick Gran Sport Tribute Convertible from Coyote Classics in Greene, Iowa remain very affordable. Coyote Classics tells us this one is laser straight and comes with a built 350 motor. Check out the walk-around video on this car and hear it run. And don't forget to have it inspected before you buy. But hurry, it will be our DEAL of the DAY on Saturday. The asking price is $27,995. Here is a muscle car which you won't have to pay a lot of money to own.
Don't buy this 1964 1/2 Mustang Convertible for its originality or as an investment. Buy it because it is a ton of fun to own and drive. The guys at Lonestar Classic Motors in Richmond, Texas are no strangers to classic Mustangs. And this one they really like. It comes with a Ford 302 ci Cobra motor, in red with a 4-speed manual transmission. Check out the photos in the ad. The interior is a custom version of what an early Mustang could look like. Lonestar says they have more photos to show you if you email them. This first year Mustang will be our DEAL of the DAY on Sunday priced at $24,000. Don't forget to have it inspected before you buy.
A private collector from Greenbell, Maryland has posted his desirable 1937 Ford 2-Dr Slantback for sale this week. It has a rebuilt 60 horsepower V8 motor with a new 94 Holley carburetor and new clutch assembly. It has hydraulic brakes and an upgraded interior. In addition, the Maryland seller says it has a new gas tank, new original radiator, and "all windows work." This Ford has the Columbia 2-speed rear end. If you are a collector who cherishes the original slantbacks, this one is priced affordably. It will be our DEAL of the DAY on Monday because the asking price is $22,500.
A 1965 Chevy El Camino is being offered for sale today by a Canadian seller from Edmonton, Ontario. He tells us it is an older restoration in need of some TLC at this point. Its chief selling points he says: "runs and drives great" and "rock solid underneath." It comes with the 283 Chevy V8, a 4-speed manual tranmission with Hurst shifter, power steering, power front disk brakes, Posi rear end, ual exhaust and Edelbrock intake and carb. All in all, this is an interesting find for a starter car. That's why it will be our DEAL of the DAY next week. The asking price in the ad is $10,000.
The 1964 Ford Falcon Sprint was Ford's economy sized sports car before the Mustang came on the scene later that year. Its popularity continues to this day, much like Chevy's Nova. A lot of work has been done to this one by the private seller from Augusta, Michigan. For instance, he notes new wiring from the firewall forward, new water pump, new alternator, pressure tested radiator, new tires, new strut rod bushings and an engine bace with stabilizer bar. The transmission and carburetor are said to be rebuilt. This would be a good car to have inspected. It will be our DEAL of the DAY next week. The price is $17,900
Here is an interesting find. A private collector from Edmond, Oklahoma has a 1939 Mercury Model 99A Coupe which he is willing to sell. He says it is mostly original with a 239 ci, 95 horsepower flathead V8. The master cylinder, springs and shocks front and rear are said to be new. The seller says it comes with a car cover and many additional parts. He considers it to be a very dependable and fun car to drive. The body style is very desirable among collectors. It is meant for someone who wants to preserve the automobile in its pure form. That's why it will be our DEAL of the DAY next week. The price is only $14,500.
By 1967 the Plymouth Barracuda had taken on the look and attitude of the quintessential Mopar muscle car. No longer was it a Valiant variant. This 1967 Plymouth Barracuda is a good example seen here in white with black racing stripes. You'll find the stock 273 ci V8 motor under the hood. Classical Gas Motors in Texas is offering it for sale. They say it starts up nicely and runs real smooth. They say it is mostly original with an automatic transmissiona dn original rear end. They say it has a nice rumble through the dual exhaust. The only surprise here should be the price. It will be our DEAL of the DAY in the coming week ... the asking price is only $19,500.
Often there are more cars that deserve to be in the DEAL of the DAY than we can schedule for our front page feature. Here is a list of cars that just missed the cut for the DEAL of the DAY this week. Remember, you saw them here first:
