When an advertiser says his rare muscle car is in "Flawless No 1 condition," some may be skeptical. But in this case a 1970 Pontiac Trans Am Ram Air IV from Palm Beach, Florida lives up to the hype. (Click here to view the photos in the ad online.) This is a real Ram Air IV, 4-speed car with complete factory documentation.
The seller says it is a rust-free California car that was sold new at John Hine Pontiac in San Diego. The restoration was performed by Chuck Huber of Musclecar CPRx in Monaca, PA. To give you an idea of just how rare this Ram Air IV Trans Am is, we've never before had one posted for sale on Cars On Line in our 22 years on the internet. The 400 ci Ram Air IV was conservatively rated at 370 horsepower and 445 lb-ft of torque. Using bigger ports, new heads with redesigned combustion chambers, swirl polished valves and an aluminum intake manifold, it is a formidable performer. The Ram Air IV Trans Am with its second-year F-body build was a better handling car than the Corvette. In fact, Pontiac was obviously aiming at Chevrolet's Corvette when they designed this special Firebird Trans Am model. Trans Ams would go on to dominate the next decade of performance vehicles.
This 1970 Pontiac Trans Am is considered by many Pontiac specialists to be the best of its kind in the country. First off, the color is the iconic Polar White with Lucerne blue stripe. It is one of only 88 1970 Trans Ams equipped with the Ram Air IV engine and one of just 59 produced with the Hurst-shifted 4-speed manual transmission. Since it came from California and had the factory emissions system, it makes it even rarer. Only 24 RA IV Trans Ams with 4-speeds were produced at the Van Nuys plant with California emissions, according to Pontiac records.
The Ram Air IV was the closest thing to a custom built hot rod shop engine that any American manufacturer had ever built. The Ram Air IV engine was "built to some of the tightest tolerances that Pontiac ever did," says Kevin Oeste of Muscle Car of the Week. "The combination started with that [functional] Shaker hood scoop at the top feeding that specially jetted Rochester Quadra-jet carburetor. They had an aluminum dual-plane intake manifold and then they had the Ram Air IV cylinder heads. The cylinder heads were very unique in that they had a very large, round exhaust port."
The Florida seller notes the incredible level of accuracy in this restored to original muscle car. "Correct heads, carburetor, distributor, unique 1970 Rally II wheels, NOS seat covers and even an NOS pair of John Hine dealer license plate frames that took 5 years to locate."
If you are a serious Pontiac or Muscle Car collector, you have to consider adding this beauty to your museum quality collection.

Move over Tesla, there is Karma coming to vie for a piece of the pie. Karma Automotive will be offering the Karma Revero, a hybrid unlike any other. It is powered by a solar roof panel, and is hand built in California. Global Luxury Imports in Burr Ridge, Illinois will be one of the select dealers to sell Karma in the Midwest. You will be seeing them advertised right here on our pages. The Revero is longer and sleeker than the Tesla Sedan. It is a four-door, but has an elegance that is more engaging for the performance car enthusiast. Click here to see the Revero on the Karma Automotive website. You can even "build your own Revero" using their design software.
Jim from Surrey, British Columbia, Canada contacted Cars On Line this week to let us know he has SOLD his 1972 Plymouth Duster 340 thru his Run Till Sold ad. "Awesome service at a great price," said Jim. He said it was a numbers matching 340 H code Duster, and came with its original production broadcast sheet. He told us it has only 85k original miles. The exterior body panels are said to be very straight with no waves. Now Jim knows why we always say, "You can advertise anywhere ... but you can sell through Cars On Line." In the middle of the Muscle Car Wars, Ford built a legendary variation on their Torino which would be wildly successful in NASCAR. The 1969 Ford Torino Talladega took the manufacturers championship for Ford in NASCAR that year. It was so aerodynamic that it caused Chrysler to come up with the Dodge Daytona and the Plymouth Superbird. Orlando Classic Cars is offering this show quality restoration. This is #749 of 750 built. Previously in the Hendricks collection, it is powered by a "Q" code 428 Cobra Jet engine with automatic transmission, power steering and power brakes. Follow this link to view dozens of detailed photos of this historic racing legend.
It was pretty exciting so see this listing come in from East Coast Classic Cars from Lillington, North Carolina today. This is a super rare 1969 Pontiac Trans Am ... yes, a real one. They tell us this car has been garaged for years and only has 25,000 original miles on it. Pontiac made a total of 697 '69 Trans Ams, both coupes and convertibles. While we know that only 8 were convertibles, there were 689 coupes. Only fourteen '69 Trans Ams had manual transmissions. This is where it gets interesting. This car was built in Van Nuys California. Of the 14 manual transmission cars built, only one was a three-speed manual. This is the car.
With only 25k original miles, you can imagine how well it shows. Just look at the photos in the ad. (Follow this link to view detailed photos.) They say it has the original 400 Ram Air III engine rated at 335 hp. Collectors will be clamoring to get a shot at this one-of-one classic muscle car.
The colors of this 1979 Lincoln Continental Mark V Coupe are rare and special ordered according to the seller, Daniel Schmitt & Co. of Missouri. The DEAL of the DAY preview gives you first shot at all the cars that will be featured in the DEAL of the DAY section on the Cars On Line home page. Often these cars sell in the newsletter before they even make it to the home page! You'll always see them here first though.
A private seller from Groves, Texas listed his 1967 Mustang GT 390 for sale this week. He says this is a matching numbers car with the vaunted 390 ci big block engine. There were 7,878 1967 Mustang GT Coupes produced with the 390 engine that year. What's more, it comes with a 4-speed, power steering, power disc brakes, handling package, bucket seats, upper and lower consoles, deluxe wood wheel, interior decor group, fog lamps, turn signal hood, styled wheels and white GT stripe. He says a complete engine and transmission overhaul was completed in 2012. It will be our DEAL of the DAY on Saturday. The asking price is $22,000.
The 1956 Pontiac lineup featured overhead valve cam, high compression V8 engines compliments of John Delorean, and they sold a lot of cars that year. It was the year that the 6 millionth Pontiac was built. This 1956 Pontiac Starchief Catalina 2-Door Hardtop still has its 316 V8 with the four-barrel carburetor which made 227 hp with the Hydra-Matic automatic transmission attached. Dual exhausts were standard. The private seller from Weslaco, Texas says it runs great with new tires, new radiator, all original interior. He says it is numbers matching and original. Follow this link to look at the photos in the ad. It will be our DEAL of the DAY on Sunday. This nice classic Pontiac is priced at just $12,900. You can't build it for that.
A very sharp looking and very clean 1962 Pontiac Catalina 2-Dr Hardtop was listed for sale by Midwest Car Exchange in Alsip, Illinois (Chicago area.) In 1962 Pontiac had an array of models to chose from and were way ahead of the game producing performance oriented cars. The Catalina was their top-of-the-line. They say this one is a solid Southern car which has received a complete repaint a few years back. It comes with the big block 389 ci V8 and an automatic 3-speed Roto-hydramatic tansmission. It has factory air conditioning, dual exhaust, chrome tips, power steering, power brakes and a padded dash. It will be our DEAL of the DAY on Saturday. The asking price is $19,900.
This 1966 Mustang Convertible is by no means a numbers matching show car. No, it comes with an NOM 302 ci V8 with a Holley 4-barrel carburetor, and Edelbrock intake and exhaust manifolds. The seller, from Snow Camp, North Carolina, describes it as a 20-footer, driver quality car. It comes with auto transmission and air shocks. Take a close look at the photos. You don't find a car this clean and nice unless it was garage kept. If you were looking for something to drive to car shows this year, have this one inspected. It will be our DEAL of the DAY this week. The important point to stress here is that you may not find one this nice for the price. They are asking $16,000.
Brandon Classics called us this week and told us, "Boy have we got a great DEAL of the DAY for you." Our readers know that Brandon Classics is a classic car dealer from St Simon's Island on the coast of Georgia. They specialize in finding good solid Southern cars to offer for sale. They were spot on with their tip on this 1955 Chrysler Imperial Sedan with the 330 ci Hemi, 250 hp, 4-barrel carburetor, dual exhaust and automatic transmission with shift selector on the dash. They say the panel fitment is excellent while the paint was just done and chrome and trim are nice. Drive or take it to the next level. It will be our DEAL of the DAY next week because the asking price is only $9,500.
Off-road classic vehicles have been a hot trend in the Western states, California, New Mexico and Arizona, for some time. But now the off-road appetite is popping up all over the country. For summer fun, hot rodders from all over the country want a hot custom 4X4 like this 1999 Jeep Wrangler to run around in. It is being offered for sale by a midwestern specialty car dealer called Diversion Motors in Manitowoc, Wisconsin. The '99 TJ looks sharp with its red paint and black accents. They say the body is in very nice condition without the nasty rust issues you find on some Jeeps. The suspension has been gone over in the last 10,000 miles. Call Diversion for more info. The price will amaze you. It will be our DEAL of the DAY with an asking price of $9,800.
For decades the Mercedes 450SL and 560SL roadsters were a symbol of success among the upwardly mobile executive in America. Today this 1989 Mercedes-Benz 560SL Roadster is being offered for sale at Specialty Sales Classics at their Benicia, California location. Check out their walk-around video and see how smooth it runs. They say it has about 77k miles on it and comes with factory cold air. In their decription they say it handles well in traffic and has nice acceleration. It may need some cosmetic touches, but they say it is so clean that it will serve you well just the way it is. The best part is the price. It will not cost you much to have it as a weekend driver. It will be our DEAL of the DAY with an asking price of $10,990.
