When Chevrolet's engineer, Vince Piggins, designed the race ready Camaro Z/28 his one desire was to beat the Ford Mustangs in the flegling SCCA Trans Am racing series. Chevrolet was finally going to build their answer to Ford's popular Pony car, and Piggins wanted to beat the Mustangs on their own playing field.
This week, there are so many Camaro Z/28's in our new listings that we wanted to tell the story. The Garnet Red 1969 Camaro Z/28 you see listed here comes from Gateway Classic Cars in Atlanta, Georgia. They say it was rotisserie restored with just 10 actual miles on it since the redo. They say no expense was spared to build it. The owner says it is still numbers matching although the motor is built and sounds incredible. Follow this link to a video where you can hear it crackle and rumble as well as see a walk-around tour of the car. It now has a 4.10 rear gear to handle all that power.
Prior to the economic recession in 2008, a Z/28 in Number 2 condition would have gone for over $100,000. Today we know Z/28 Camaros have dropped to a much lower price range. In fact, we think they are a raging buy right now and are once again a good investment at these lower price ranges.
The Camaro Z/28 was as successful on the Trans Am circuit as it was in showrooms back in the day. In 1969, there were 20,302 Camaro Z/28's sold as new cars. In that same year only 1,628 Mustang Boss 302's were purchased by North American new car buyers.
Another 1969 Camaro Z/28 was listed for sale by a private seller from Toronto, Canada. This one is in Fathom Green (although it looks black in the photo.) Click through to the ad to see more photos and a description. It is a professionally restored X77 code Z/28. The seller says it has a matching numbers VIN and a correct DZ302 motor, M21 Muncie 4-speed transmission with Hurst shifter and a 12-bolt rear end.
Be sure to read our Cars On Line blog page for a complete history on the Z/28 and more fresh Z/28 listings. They range in price from $59,999 to $89,900 for an RS Z/28. Pricing on Z/28's has come down to levels that make them attractive to invest in again. Also get the inside story on how the Camaro was named. While you are there, please tell us about your Z/28 experiences back in the day in the comments section at the bottom of the blog page. We are always interested in hearing a good story.

If you are planning to advertise a collector car for the spring season you might want to get your ad in by this coming Wednesday. That way you will be sure to make it into the Friday Easter edition of the Cars On Line Weekly newsletter. We will have a special feature on an historic Dodge Viper GT3 race prototype, currently for sale out of an exclusive collection. Here is a preview of that posting.
Easter weekend is traditionally a huge weekend to advertise because so many people have extra free time to surf for cars. Everybody needs a new ride for the upcoming spring car show season.
Hope you had a chance to join in on the fun last weekend when we watched the live stream of the Auctions America Ft Lauderdale Auction and held an online discussion on collector car values on our Facebook page. The interactive online experience was an entertaining event for all of our Cars On Line followers. Follow this link to review the Ft Lauderdale Auction and our coverage.
As you may know, the top sale was a 1963 Mercedes-Benz 300SL Roadster which did not meet Reserve while it was on the auction block. But an internet bidder (maybe one of our Cars On Line group) was able to complete the sale hours later after much negotiation. The sale price was $1,200,000, making it the top sale of the Ft Lauderdale Auction this year. In a sale that grabbed all the attention, President Donald Trump's 2007 Ferrari F430 F1 created quite a stir in the auction house when it took the stage. As the POTUS' Ferrari stood on the auction stage the bidding stalled at $240,000 failing to meet Reserve. But Auctions America put out a statement that the President's Ferrari was sold to an internet bidder for $270,000 later that day. That stands as the highest price ever paid on record for a 2007 Ferrari F430 F1.
Fred from Amherst, New Hampshire was happy to notify us that he had SOLD his 1951 Chevy Tin Woodie Wagon on Cars-On-Line.com. "Very happy with Cars On Line, and very user friendly even for an old guy like me," Fred wrote, after filling out the SOLD form on our website. He used the $45.00 Run Till Sold ad. He told us the woodie wagon was professionally restored to original condition. It had a new wiring harness, complete new interior, all new brakes and lines, and the front end was taken apart and completely rebuilt. Now Fred knows why we always say, "You can advertise anywhere ... but you can sell through Cars On Line." To review more vehicles SOLD Thru Cars On Line this week click this link.

Now here is a truly rare find. There are only a handful of the dealer edition 1956 Desoto Fireflite Pacesetter Indy Pace Car examples left in existence. Here is one just listed for sale by Midwest Car Exchange in Alsip, Illinois (Chicago suburb.) The classic convertible Indianapolis 500 Pace Car edition comes heavily documented (see photos in the ad.) Chrysler really made this one unique, with special paint in Surf White / Adventurer Gold (Code 438), special trim, special Gold wheel covers, gold mesh radiator grille, silver radiator grille "V" medallion, special air scoop medallion and special gold And white steering wheel. It also comes with the famous Chrysler HiFi record player and push button transmission. You'll love the 330 ci Hemi engine and "Desotomatic" self-winding steering wheel. Amazingly, it also comes with power windows, power steeriing, power brakes and a power seat. This is one amazing find which could be the centerpiece of any high quality collection.
U.S. light vehicle sales continued to slip in March as several carmakers reported declines for the month. A total of 1.5 million cars and trucks rolled off dealership lots, putting overall sales down 1.6 percent compared to March of last year. The numbers have been released by WardsAuto.com. Their data center provides the most trusted numbers for new car sales.
General Motors, the nation’s largest car manufacturer, said its total sales increased 1.5 percent to 256,034 cars and trucks. Meanwhile Ford, the second largest U.S. automaker, reported its sales fell 7 percent to 230,169 vehicles. Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) finished the month with a drop in sales as well, reporting its U.S. sales were down 4.8 percent to 188,438 cars and trucks.
The big Japanese automakers posted declines for the month as well. Toyota, the largest Japanese car manufacturer, said it sold 215,224 cars and trucks last month, a 2.1 percent drop from the same month in 2016. Meanwhile Honda’s overall sales fell 0.72 percent from March 2016 results.
So far a total of 4 million cars and trucks have been sold in the U.S. during 2017, a 1.4 percent decrease over last year at this time. Some analysts see warning signs in the figures and cautioned that sales could slow later this year.
We're continuing our series on collector car auctions, a how-to for the collector who wants to get a taste of the auction experience. This is the third in a series of articles we've written in coordination with auction expert Patrick Krook of Show Your Auto.com. It is written from the viewpoint of a collector who may want to sell his vehicle through a collector car auction. Follow this link to read the feature we simply called "Selling A Car At a Collector Car Auction."
If you've thought about selling a car at auction, then there's a few basic things to keep in mind that will help maximize the return you can expect when it's on the auction stage. This is the first of two articles where we'll talk about what a seller needs to know when taking a car to auction. Click here to read the whole series of articles on Collector Car Auctions.
One of the finest representations of its era, a 1933 Chrysler Imperial Dual Windshield Phaeton has just been offered for sale by Legendary Motorcar Co. It has the timeless styling of the classic 1930's, the body having been done by LeBaron. This car is well known in the classic car community coming from a noted collection. Only 151 LeBaron-bodied examples were produced, with just 36 being dual windshield phaetons. Today, it is estimated that just 17 remain, including a handful of restored examples. The litany of famous people who have owned this car is significant. It was delivered new to the legendary powerboat racer, Lou Fageol. Fageol won many Powerboat races in his career, piloting some of the fastest boats on the planet at that time. He also built race cars that contended in famous land races like the Indianapolis 500. It was successively owned by a famous Hollywood movie star and industrialists. It would be a core holding for any quality collection or a coveted museum piece.
This week, Streetside Classics re-listed a one-of-a-kind custom styled 1934 Ford Panther, a handbuilt custom crafted new-classic with three amazing 350 ci motors and three sets of sidepipes. This incredible build is amazingly detailed and it has a custom leather interior that reminds you of the work of the finest European craftsman. There are dozens of detailed photos available to view on the ad page. And be sure to watch this amazing car in a walk-around video produced by Streetside at their Tampa, Florida location. An aluminum hood opens on pneumatic cylinders revealing the triple 350 ci engines. The best part is that the car was built to be a true driver. They say it runs out so nice because the suspension was built to show and go. This is a remarkable feat of design. Click here to view the video.
Mopar Muscle car enthusiats will want to tune into the video feature this week. It's a 1970 Dodge Challenger Convertible from Southern Motors in Clarkston, Michigan. You'll get a full tour of the car in the video above, or CLICK HERE to view. They get the 1969 440ci blower motor turning and give you a thorough inspection of this beauty. Other features include a 5-spd manual transmission, Edelbrock Torker aluminum intake, Hurst Pistol Grip shifter, Rally dash with tach, custom sound, dual exhaust, and a "Shaker" hood.

The DEAL of the DAY preview gives you first shot at all the cars that will be highlighted in the DEAL of the DAY feature on the Cars On Line home page. Often these cars sell in the newsletter before they even make it to the home page! You'll always see them here first though.
We're pretty sure this is the best deal on a 1969 Pontiac GTO Judge you are going to find this year. And, yes, American Classics & Hot Rods out of Newberg, Oregon tells us it is a real Judge. They slashed the original price of $49,900 but don't give you exactly what they are looking for pricewise in the ad. So let's conjecture. Would they take $45,000, or $42,000? The mind reels at the thought. But the only way you're gonna' know for sure is if you call them and shoot them an offer. One of the reasons this original Judge is being offered at a lower price is that it has an NOM 455 big block motor, not the original for this car. But it will be our DEAL of the DAY on Saturday because you can't find another GTO Judge this nice for this price.
Here is an incredible opportunity for someone who loves these classic microcars to get a good deal. This is a 1959 Morris Minor Delivery truck, a minny British delivery vehicle. The seller is Crown Concepts in Tucson, Arizona and it is obvious from the description that they don't understand or want to understand this little bitty bug of a truck. But for the right buyer this will be quite a find. Crown Concepts says it runs and drives pretty well. It has a 4-speed transmission. Their asking price is almost like giving it away. It will be our DEAL of the DAY on Sunday. Take home a piece of history when you buy it for just $5,000. No, that's not a typo. Just $5,000.
These Shelby Cobra reproductions are so popular, we always tell people if you see one for under $30,000 you better buy it. Even though there are always many of these Cobra replicas on the market they really hold their value. When you find one like this 1966 Shelby Cobra offered for sale by Haggle Me.com, you should have it inspected quickly. This one is not going to last long. They say it is still in the hands of the original owner. He hasn't been driving it much in the last five years so it is now on the market. It will be our DEAL of the DAY this week because the asking price is $28,500.
What a ride this is. This 1928 Ford Phaeton Hot Rod almost defines the term "old school." It is '50s stylin all the way. Not only is it a 4-door "tub style" hot rod, but it comes with the hottest '50s Oldsmobile engine, the Olds J2 370 ci big block with triple deuce velocity stacks. The seller from Bogalusa, Louisiana does not offer a full description in the ad so you'll have to call him to get all the info. For instance, is that a modern velocity stack setup with the computer chip? Need to know. But it will be our DEAL of the DAY next week whatever the outcome. They're only asking $23,500 for this super sharp hot rod. Hurry!
If the photos are any indication this 1946 Plymouth Special Deluxe is a very sharp looking offering. The seller is from Temecula, California, and says it runs strong, and is very clean inside and out. The seller does not provide much info on this car but the photos look great. Be sure to call to get more info or have it inspected. He says there are just 89,000 original miles, new brakes and tires with under 1,000 miles. It will be our DEAL of the DAY this coming week priced at $10,500.
This is the story of our times. An 84-year-old car collector from Lake Wales, Florida is selling some of his cars due to health conditions. Here is an interesting opportunity to own a desirable classic '50s car for just pocket change. This is a 1956 Dodge Coronet Custom Royal with the tutone paint in Mopar styling. He te. lls us that all the chrome and stainless is in as new condition. It runs a 315 ci V8 engine, push button transmission, power steering and power brakes. The AM FM radio is in working condition, he tells us. And he says it even has factory air conditioning. In his description he notes it has a beautiful interior and is in excellent running condition. This one will be our DEAL of the DAY later next week. Don't wait too long to pick up the phone and call. The price is only $16,500.
One of the hot trends in the specialty vehicle market today are the off-road Jeeps and Land Cruisers with modified lift. Off-roading is a "club" type movement. But not all buyers are actually wanting to go on off-road adventures. Most of these hot off-road units are being drive on the streets. It's the cool thing to do. Here is a great example. The 1978 Jeep CJ5 Renegade being offered here by Streetside Classics in Charlotte, North Carolina is a head turner. It looks sharp with its Electric blue paint, and Streetside tells us it has recently been restored. It is priced so right it will be our DEAL of the DAY later next week if it lasts that long. Better hurry! It is priced at $14,995.
Often there are more cars that deserve to be in the DEAL of the DAY than we can schedule for our front page feature. Here is a list of cars that just missed the cut for the DEAL of the DAY this week. Remember, you saw them here first:
